Today I am reviewing a favorite movie of mine. It is the 1997 movie called "My Best Friend's Wedding" with Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz, and Rupert Everett. Need I say more? Don't we all love her? She is at her best in this one. It's the story of Julianne Potter who is a successful food critic. Her best friend is Micheal ONeal. They had made a pact that if neither had found true love and were not married by the age of 28 they would marry each other. Julianne(Jules) has been secretly in love with him for years and when he makes the fateful call to her announcing he has found that special someone and is engaged Jules becomes desperate to win him for herself. It goes on to tell of how she tried to do this. George is my favorite character in this movie. Played by Dermot Mulroney(he was great in "Leap Year"). He portrays a gay man who has been her friend for years and he helps her throughout the movie. My favorite scene is when she tracks him down and in trying to apologize to him says she feels like pond scum. He says, "No, lower." It comes out to be the pus that infects the mucus that cruds up the fungus that feeds on the pond scum. It's a great scene! Engaging, funny, great dialogue, fast-paced, and with a great soundtrack by Burt Bacharach. A must-see for Julia Roberts fans and those who love a good farce. Picture is courtesy of Google.
