Great Sports Achievement : Nikhat Zareen of India wins Women's World Boxing Championships

Indian Boxing rose to new heights on Thursday May 19,2022 when Nikhat Zareen won the gold medal at the Women's World Boxing Championships in Istanbul. She won the gold in the flyweight (52 kg) division with an emphatic 5-0 win over Thailand's Jitpong Jutamas in the final. She is only the 5th Indian woman to win gold at the World Boxing Championships after record six-time champion MC Mary Kom (2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2018), Sarita Devi (2006), Jenny RL (2006) and Lekha KC (2006). Congratulations! A while ago I heard that, while India has the highest population in the world, sports aren't very promoted and supported, except for Cricket maybe. Hopefully that trend is coming to an end. It seems like it could be the case.

That was a proud moment for our country. Hope she sets the bar high for coming generations and becomes an inspiration for many. Good to see that Sports is treated well these days and many youngsters are coming up. But we still need to improve a lot.
