In 1931 American songwriter Clint Ballard Jr was born in Texas. He had two number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart "Game of Love" by Wayne Fontana and The Mindbenders in 1965, the second was the 1975 hit, "You're No Good" by Linda Ronstadt. He passed on in 2008. In 1955 singer, songwriter, and author Rosanne Cash, the eldest daughter of Johnny Cash was born in Tennessee. She won a Grammy in 1985 for "I Don't Know Why You Don't Want Me", and has received twelve other Grammy nominations. She has had 11 number one country hit singles, 21 Top 40 country singles and two gold records. In 1988 singer Billy Gilman was born in Rhode Island. In 2000, at the age of 11, he debuted with the single "One Voice," a Top 20 hit on the Billboard country music charts and became the youngest singer to score a Top 20 hit on the country music charts. He was also given an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the youngest singer to reach number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. In 2005 Carrie Underwood became the fourth-season winner of American Idol. Although her first single, "Inside Your Heaven," topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, the 22-year-old Underwood's influences and music are predominantly country. Late in the year, she entered the top 10 of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for the first time with "Jesus Take the Wheel." In 2010 Carrie Underwood came out with "Undo It" the third single from her album Play On. The song became her tenth number one hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. In 2011 Jason Aldean was at number one on the Country Album chart with his fourth album My Kinda Party. In 2014 Brad Paisley traveled on Air Force One with President Barack Obama to visit US troops at Bagram Air Base in Bagram, Afghanistan. Paisley played a full concert for the troops stationed there.

I really admire those who risk their lives to entertain the troops.

On this day in 1933 Jimmie Rodgers recorded his final four songs. He was so ravaged with tuberculosis that he’d have to rest on a mat between takes. If you listen to this it’s hard to believe he was having trouble breathing, or that he’d die two days later.
