School's Out For Summer

Today was the last day of school for our students. I will be going in for several hours tomorrow to finish up the final paperwork and probably for a bit a couple of days next week. Then it's Summer Break and I become a full-time writer for about 9 weeks. Some of my students presented me with small gifts of appreciation today. One of the coolest was the one shown in the photo. The young man who gave it to me reminds me of young Sheldon. He is very smart but lacks social skills. The gifts were nice. What really made my day though, was the number of kids who told me they didn't want to leave at the end of the day because it meant they wouldn't be in my class anymore. I don't remember ever telling a teacher I wished I could stay in their class another year. Here's an old favorite we used to play on the last day of school when I was in junior high and high school: https://youtu.be/mBqiC5ox8Bw

You are right I don’t think I ever told a teacher I could stay another year. I hope you enjoy your summer once you are off.

K and I plan to do a lot of camping this summer now that the rig is back in working order. And I plan to do a lot of writing. I have two manuscripts I want to finish.

You sound like Alice Cooper! I did a “school’s IN” countdown a few years ago, and sadly the Cooper classic didn’t make the list, so I used it as my teaser song. Have a productive and fun summer! Don’t stay away from us or the campgrounds!!!!

We have high school graduation today, but the rest of the school is in till June 10 (June 9 is MS "moving up" ceremony) and teachers go until June 15. Then I am going to teach summer school! Whee.

I may look into doing some tutoring this summer as there seems to be a high demand for it around here.

Hard to think school's out already in some places for students.

I agree with this phrase. I still remember my good teachers during my school days.

That is a lovely gesture from the young man. And the others too DW. It is so nice they respect you. Well yes, I always played that tune too when school was out

The gifts that you got sound really nice. You are a good teachers since the students are sad not to be in your class anymore.

I had some parents ask if I still planned to be there when their younger children (now in 1st or 2nd) reach 4th grade. I had to resort to the non-committal answer of "We'll see" because my pending retirement at the end of next year isn't a sure thing as yet.

One parent told me that their child loved my class because they learned a lot and it didn't seem like work because I made it fun. To me, that is a high compliment.
