No More Laws!

Of course with another round of mass shootings the democrats are on fire, enraged, and calling for more gun control laws.
Biden says, "Enough!" And I say the same thing. Enough with the calls for gun control laws!
They don't work. We have more gun control laws now than we have ever had in our entire history and not a single one of them is stopping any shootings. That is because laws do one thing and one thing only...
Target law abiding citizens. Because they (law abiding citizens) are the ones who care about laws. They are the ones prone to follow them and not want to break them.
And it is not even the law that necessarily stops law abiding citizens from breaking laws. It is something called morals, conscience and common sense. Laws serve really one main purpose and that is to define what is against the law and create a means to punish those who break the law.
Criminals are not going to care if you have a million gun control laws on the books. They aren't going to follow them. Make all the gun bans you want, it does not mean someone can't get a banned gun. It doesn't mean somebody won't.
Consider one primary law that is broken in all of these mass shootings. Murder! Hey folks, news flash. Did you know that murder is illegal? Well, it is. But guess what, the law that says that doesn't stop people from murdering.
It's probably a dumb comparison, but we have drinking age laws in this country too. It's 21 for anyone who is curious. It does not stop underage drinking at all. Kids still drink regardless of the age restriction.
Someone can always get the booze for the kids and in the case of guns someone can always get guns for someone who is otherwise prohibited from doing so under the law.
No matter what laws we create it will not stop the shootings, and again, we have more laws on the books now than ever before and more shootings than ever before. So, the laws mean nothing.
The laws do not address the real issues. If we are not willing as a people and as a society to really address the issue of mass shootings we are never going to really get to the bottom of why they occur or stand a chance to get even remotely close to stopping them.
It is sort of like someone trying to put out an electrical fire using all sorts of "ideas" and ignoring that if they just shut the power source off...
The fire goes out.
We don't need more laws. What we need is good analysis as to what the root of the problem is and an open and honest debate about what to do.
If you really get down to it all creating laws is is a lazy man's approach and bringing forward the APPEARANCE you are doing something, when all you are really doing is just kicking the can.
Meanwhile people will continue to die brutally at the mercy of criminals who don't give a damn about your laws.

That is certainly part of the problem as well. A lot of people simply think that a law can prevent something from happening. It's just not the case. I mean, it may be a stupid example but even a simple law like a speed limit on a highway must be constantly addressed. The speed limit does not limit anyone's speed. It simply gives the police a reason to pull someone over that does not obey the law.

@CarolDM — it’s like the discussion I wrote last week about the new law in Tennessee making it a felony to camp on public land (aimed at the homeless living there). One of the freaking sponsors of the bill said it wasn’t going to be enforced. So why did they waste time, money, and trees to write the thing to begin with??????

We should definitely be addressing mental health and school bullying. Seems most of the school shooters were bullied in school. Any wonder they come back for revenge?
Common sense tells us the way to stop a bully is to stand up to the bully. However, the moment the bully's target does that the target is the one that gets into trouble. Bullies know when to throw a punch or do something bad to another kid so they wait till no one is looking. The target (victim) typically doesn't know that. They are naive and almost always get 'caught' if they impulsively strike back. Which only further adds to the problem.
I've long thought dangerous bullies should be removed from the average school environment.
I challenge any of your commenters to actually suggest other ways to combat school shootings.
