Yesterday we went to the Lichfield Bower.
My weather app said it was going to be cloudy with some sunshine all day, and it was due to rain at about 7:00pm.
We had a table for 3 booked for 12:00 noon at Bistro No. 9 I think it's called which is opposite the Cathedral. Then just as we were about to go through the door my step-dad told us he wouldn't be staying!
My step-dad dropped us off as near to the Cathedral as he could (some of the roads were closed because of the Bower procession), and then we walked the rest of the way to the cafe.
When we got to the cafe we went and told a lady at the till that we had a table booked for 3, so she said she'd show us to our table. The cafe is situated in an old house and has many rooms and we were shown to a room on the right of a set of stairs. This room might have been a dining room once, or maybe even a bedroom. The lady showed us to a table by the window which had little signs saying "reserved" on it. There was a lovely large fury dog lying on the floor and I stroked it and said, you're nice and furry, aren't you? We took our seats. I ordered a green tea and my Mum ordered a regular tea. When I'd finished mine 're lady came back and asked if I'd like a top up and I said no, but she must have misheard me because a few minutes later she came back with another cup of green tea. I drank it anyway, I wasn't complaining, Mum was paying! Then the lady came back and asked us if we were ready to order. I had a Garden Breakfast, which was vegetarian but not vegan, and Mum had a Jacket Potato with tuna. On my breakfast there was basically the same as I have at the pub but with two fried eggs aswell (that's why it wasn't vegan). It had what looked like a hash brown but they called it Bubble and Squeak, some small tomatoes that were still on the vine, baked beans, mushroom and 3 vegetarian sausages (the menu said 2 but I got 3!) The toast that I asked for was grainary. We had a lovely lunch in the cafe, and then we went out to watch the procession.
It always starts with Morris Dancers but this year I think they were all women and they were all dressed in red. We had floats and brass bands as usual and there were some soldiers.
After we'd watched the procession we went into Beacon Park for some entertainment. There was a dog show called Paws in the Park, the Stannage International Stunt Team and the Lamb nationals, which is a sheep race! (The Bower programme states that there's an amusing commentary throughout the race describing each sheep's attempt to bleat the competition!) I went to the toilet and when I came out the Bower Queen was in an open topped sports car with Boswell the Bear.
There were also lots of fairground rides in Beacon Park aswell, and food stalls. Mum bought some doughnuts for her and my step-dad but I didn't want any.
Then we walked home. Slowly. Because Mum isn't very fast on her feet these days!
If you want to see some more pictures of the Bower please let me know.

The Bower is a parade that goes through the streets of Lichfield. It has Morris Dancers, brass bands and floats, etc. There is also entertainment in Beacon Park and fairs in the Market Square, in the car park behind B&M and in Beacon Park. There is also a market which was situated by Minster Pool because the Market Square had a fair in it! Here is a picture of the Morris Dancers:-

Ah, yes, it's a great privilege to be chosen to be Bower Queen. She would have been very happy.

What a beautiful queen! She's lovely. Sorry I'm not particular with this Lichfield Bower. What is this all about?

It's a parade through the streets of Lichfield. Anyone can take part, individual or company, they just have to register and full out a form and stuff. We have the Morris Dancers first, then brass bands and floats and stuff. The Bower Queen gets crowned outside the Guildhall. Then the procession goes through the streets in the centre of Lichfield. Afterwards there is entertainment in Beacon Park. Also there was a fair in 3 places, in the Market Square, in the car park behind B&M, and in Beacon Park and also a market which was situated by Minster Pool because the Market Square was filled with that fair! Here is a picture of some soldiers matching during the Lichfield Bower 2022.
