Midweek Musings: Losing My Innocence

Well, I did it. I lost my innocence. I went into an Aldi’s today. (What else could it have been?
) I needed to walk a little, but the clouds were looking ominous (we were under a tornado watch for a few hours but it was eventually canceled early) so I didn’t want to go too far. After I filled up my car at Kroger (asterisk: I got about five gallons’ worth) I parked and walked to the Aldi near the Kroger. Hey, that’s some competition!!!
If you don’t know, Aldi is a “throwback” store of sorts, minimally but plentifully stocked. They DO have a lot of items, but not 47 different brands. If you’re a sucker for Newman’s Own you’ll have to go to the Kroger where I parked. Because of the minimalism they keep the prices low (and I do mean low: I saw the lemon fiber squares I love for much less than they are at Meijer, another one of those mega-stores like Wally World). You have to bring your own bags, too, and they don’t keep all-night hours so they don’t have to pay for electricity and employees at 3 AM when no one’s there. Smart shopping. I’ll go back, definitely.
Today (June 8) is Boz Scaggs’ 78th birthday. DANG, how’d he get so old!????
He’s one of my favorites. In fact, one of my earliest music countdowns here was a Boz Scaggs top ten. (I won’t keep you in suspense or make you go look it up, the long linked below, “Painted Bells,” is my favorite. Has been for about 46 years now.) Tomorrow my dear aunt of blessed memory would have turned 95.
I’m thinking about maybe, perhaps, who-knows, could-be going somewhere after my doctor’s appointment next week. We’ll see if the home equity loan comes through so I can buy gas.
One of the places I would go would be central Ohio, mainly because we have a golf tournament there at the end of June. I’m not playing this year but I definitely want to see my friends. They’re so much fun to be around.
So y’all have a great evening!!
Birthday Boy Boz with my favorite song by him:

@RebeccasFarm — I’m glad you enjoyed it. Easily my favorite Boz song.

It is international. I didn’t know until I looked it up that it’s German-owned. There are about 2,000 stores in the US.

@allen0187 — I didn’t see them listen in any of the Asian-area countries, and I think it’s a little far to fly to Australia just for groceries.

@FourWalls Yes it did. I need to check ours out again. They had got bad about having more garden and h
kitchen wares stuff for awhile. I heard they have cut back on that again.

My Aldi experience when ordering online was a bit different there were many items out of stock and I had to juggle what I wanted, I know Boz Scaggs but have not listened to many of his songs but I do like this one,

Lots of places are having “out of stock” issues (except Target, they have a surplus
). That’s one reason I love to go to a grocery store: if they don’t have “A” then I can physically see what they have for a “B” or “C” choice.

@FourWalls I do not have that option so I have to rely on delivery

I do not think that in the Lake Charles there is an Aldi store. Happy birthday to Boz Scaggs since I like his music as well.

Boz is soooo cool. I haven’t seen a map showing where the Aldi stores are in the US, but there are about 2,000 of them nationwide. They may be concentrated in various regions, the way Meijer is in the Midwest or Publix is in the south.

It was a nice change from the overstocked big stores. I can see why people like them.

We had an Aldi’s open here in my city, but I haven’t been to it since it is on the opposite side of town from where I live. I’ve heard good things about them though.

The company that owns them also owns Trader Joe’s. You don’t get tons of brand selections (I saw two brands of most products), but by the same token you aren’t paying for those 14 brands sitting on the shelves not selling.

I noticed Australia was on the list of nations that have them.
