Thanks to the actions of David Hughes who was kayaking on the Ohio River last month in Maysville Kentucky found a bright yellow firefighter helmet tangled in debris on the riverbank. When David saw the firefighter's helmet, he saw that the helmet belonged to Franklin Park Pennsylvania firefighter Dave Vodarick who has been a firefighter with the same group since 1974. Since the helmet had the name of the firefighter and his employer, Daniel placed the image of the helmet on Facebook to see if Dave would want his helmet that he lost in October 2019 during a water rescue in Pennsylvania when the rush of water nearly carried him away, Dave removed his helmet to avoid being taken away the rush of the water. Franklin Park Fire Chief Bill Chicots did see the message on Facebook. Bill admitted that his crew tried to recover the missing helmet at the scene of the incident but there the helmet was not seen at all for three years. The missing helmet traveled from Pennsylvania to Kentucky a distance of 422 miles in three years. Daniel will be making arrangements to mail the helmet from Maysville to Franklin Park where it will be placed in a trophy case at the fire station when it arrives from Kentucky.

That a long way for a helmet to travel even in three years. They must be made of tough stuff.

The helmet used by firefighters appear to be made of a very tough material.

It's good the missing helmet didn't settle on the deep of the river.

It was a great reunion like a reunion of a cat or human seeing their loved one after a long separation.

I agree with you since Dave thought he would never see his helmet once again.
