A strange raccoon story from Kentucky

I will be honest and admit that I do not know much about raccoons climbing up light pole on streets since it is seldom reported by the news media of firefighters having to rescue a raccoon that needs their help to come down from a light pole or a tall tree.
A raccoon was seen last Friday on top of a light pole in Campbell County Kentucky near a Meijer supermarket store.
As usual the Campbell County Firefighters contacted the Campbell County Animal Shelter, Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, the Kentucky State Highway Patrol and other officials in an attempt to rescue the raccoon during the afternoon.
What happened next was that the attempt to rescue the raccoon failed since the raccoon managed to get from the top of the light pole to the ground overnight and vanish into the wooded area.
Even though it is an odd story, the good news part is that the raccoon did not suffer any injuries coming down the top of the light pole to the ground even though I have no knowledge on how raccoons can come down from tall light poles to the ground unlike cats who do not have the ability to climb down from a tall tree since their paws cannot grab a tree going down safely.

Animals have the instinct on how to survive. But it's beyond their ability to save themselves in trouble now the human's role takes part.

I have noticed that about animals being smarter than they look.

I agree with you that the firefighters and other city officials did their best to rescue the raccoon despite like you said not their top priority.

@Deepizzaguy They will be ignored in our society, and no one will want to aid them. I'm delighted they're part of the culture of caring for animals and the environment.

I'm glad the raccoon came down on its own and was not harmed.

I am just as surprised as you are learning that racoons can climb up a light pole at such a height myself.

Silly raccoon to climb that high but I am glad he got down safely, My cat Sid use to climb way up high into our apple trees in Latvia and made it up and down always.

I agree with you that the raccoon was silly to run up a light pole.
