1922 Fanny Brice--My Man This is actually an amusing song and meant to be humorous. 1.This guy is absolutely insignificant, but in the song she loves him. 2. He's cold and wet. This part is up for debate, though it sounds as if she is speaking of her dog when he comes in after a storm. 3. He's not handsome, nor is he brave. 4. He has countless girlfriends, but she's reassured, since he likes her just as much as he likes them. This reminds me of my niece who told us she was going on a double date, first her boyfriend would collect another girl and then he would arrive at Jennifer's house. She was in elementary school and unaware that a double date involved two couples and not two girlfriends. 5. He beats her, though I'm not sure why they thought this was funny 100 years ago. 6. If she ever left him, she would come crawling back on her knees. Incredibly, this ability to love the wrong person hasn't changed much in 100 years.
