As we have our new Philippine President thru President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos, Jr., a congressman from the Visayas region filed House Bill to change the name of our international gateway to the world with is the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) into Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport (FEMIA). Before asking your thoughts here, let me give you a short background. The one who conceptualized and initiated the plan of having the international airport here in the Philippines was President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr. When President Corazon C. Aquino took office on 1986 with the help of her partymates passed a law changing the name of then Manila International Airport into NAIA last 1987 because her husband died in that airport after being shot by a sniper. Also in that year we have a new Constitution of the Philippines to amend from 1987 Constitution. So, technically, the changed of name was so called a heroic act of then Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. (husband of Pres. Cory Aquino). To cut the long story short, now Bongbong Marcos Jr. is now our current President of the Philippines, a congressman filed a change of name because the Aquino's already out of the picture. And some lawmakers opposing this proposed law and suggesting put back to the original name which is Manila International Airport. For you, if you're a lawmaker in the Philippines. Are you in favor of changing the name of the international airport? If yes, what name you prefer and why?

What is the point of changing its name? Will that help the economy? The new President must be busy with the most important things not changing names of an airport.

@DevMrSamEleazar The main point is that it has no importance for the country

Actually, there's no information from the new government about changing the names. It's coming first from a congressman.

What is the point to change the name of the airport. A lot of wasted money and not for a reason. Should the name be changed I am all for Manila International Airport. I like the airports with the name of the city.

Yes. I believe it should be set to Manila International Airport instead of any political figure.

@luisga814 - Most International airports I know are set to the name of the city "Los Angeles International Airport", same for Miami or Las Vegas, the exception is the main New York Airport, that has the name of the assassinated President John F.Kennedy.

I read the entire story. I am not into politics that much but these things are common in India too. When the new ruling party came in they changed the name of our city from Calcutta to Kolkata and West Bengal to Bangla. So they have power, they wanna leave some mark of that power behind. That's all I think. I am neutral 'cause anyway these incidents ain't going to change my life.

Thanks for taking time to read the entire story. I appreciate that. I didn't know that India and Philippines politics are almost the same in this kind of case.

It's a waste of time. Bong bong is too personal. and if he do that it's like wasting time.

It is merely politicizing issues once more. I believe that historically, the airport was built long before Marcos took office. It is incorrect to attribute sole credit for the construction of that airport to him. They probably leave that alone now because the bill's sponsor is merely seeking to appease the seated president, in my opinion.

Yes if my history research is right. Yes, this airport was built even before Marcos, Sr., took office. However, he proposed this before he became a President when he's in the Senate.

The lapdogs are obviously licking the a$$ of the son of the dictator and thief. The airport was made ten years before the dictator became president. If they want to change the name, they can revert it to Manila International Airport.

To avoid changes from time to time following each election, better to name it for what it is Manila International Airport.

Since it's your country, I guess it will be fine if you can decide to have a name known to your country's men here when I will travel to your country I will feel the sweetness and the cultural aspect brought about by that! Hope you settle for a great name!

Yes. I appreciate the change of name. However, to avoid politicizing, it should be named as Manila International Airport.

@luisga814 so long as politics will not be involved in it's naming, that will be so great
