Homesick, part 2

I wrote a post yesterday about no matter how much I enjoy a vacation, it's not very long before I'm ready to get back to my own home and my own cooking. Then I started thinking about it in a different way. A life span of even 100 years seems like a really really long time to be alive. But when I look at it compared to how long this planet has been populated, it really isn't that long after all. I know some of you may disagree, but even after this long/short life, we'll have a much longer life span called eternity. These relatively few years on this earth go by so quickly. I sometimes wonder how in the world did I get this old so fast? Wasn't it just a few years ago that we were raising our kids, enjoying grandkids, working hard and retiring? But I've started looking at life as a journey that I'll eventually grow tired of. Then I'll want to go home and enjoy all the things that mean a lot to me. Going home means going to heaven. That's my real home. I'm just here for a while on vacation. Granted, this "vacation" has been fun most of the time. There has been a lot of heartache, physical pain, loneliness, but also joy and love and peace. But just as our holidays here on earth are short and we look forward to going home, this holiday for me is temporary and I can't wait to get home where I'll be with Jesus and my loved ones for all eternity. As the Bible says, this is not my home, I'm just passing through.

Such a touching and thoughtful post. . And I totally agree that vacation is more of temporary thing. Nothing feels like a home.

Life is a journey, sometimes long, sometimes short. In the blink of an eye, life can be snuffed out- here today gone tomorrow. Therefore we should make the most of every day, enjoy the little things, spend more time smiling instead of frowning. Of course life can be a rocky road but it is all part of living and being alive.

Nailed it!! We are all just passing through this life on Earth. It is like a testing period before going to our eternal home.

It really does give a different perspective to life, doesn't it? I hope God will bless my husband and I for however many years He wills and we're looking forward to a cruise this fall. So I'm not ready to die until it's time, but I'm really looking forward to heaven.

Nicely put. I think about being 22 and just getting married. When I try and wrap my head around being 74...I can't! I don't know where the time went. I hope in the next life I will be going to Heaven. Have a great weekend.

Thanks, Linda. We're trying to decide how involved we should be in rebuilding the church that recently burned. We're still members and I'm the treasurer, but we've been attending services at another church for two years. It's complicated.
