how much time and money

I love art, and recently noticed a painting of the German Emperor, Matthias by an artist I admire who lived in the early 17th century. His name is Hans von Aachen, and he painted numerous types of paintings. I love his Christ in the manger the best I was intrigued by the exceptional details of his clothes. The pearls and stitching along with the cost of the materials must have cost a fortune. An added cost were the people who sewed this together using just needles and thread--it's incredible. Then there are the objects of gold he is holding and wearing--at this point I can't even fathom the cost. As an Emperor, it's true you want to arrive at your destination looking mighty fine, but maybe it's a bit much. The video is one I put together several years ago showing his art work with the song Sunny Goodge Street by Donovan. I tried to do a good job, but I didn't. Back in time the rich and powerful did not care about how much the materials costed, they did not pay for the work, as people had to work for them without being paid.

@misunderstood_zombie Is this different in our days? I have read yesterday that the Bonus of high paid manager is 640 times the wage of a normal worker.

@LadyDuck That's horrible. I think you are right that we are starting to live in this time again.

I believe they didn't care about the everyday man. His outfit probably cost more than a man's wages for his whole life, maybe 20 men. Who knows? It's interesting anyway.

I agree, I think it looks very restrictive to move around in.

You really are an art admirer. You can see the details of a painting or a photo.

I love art especially the old masters, because there is also history and fashion in each painting.

Yes the clothes back then was too much. Also artists back then didn't paint what exactly the people really looked like.

So, you think the artist just added some of the specialty pearls and such? I never thought of that but it would make sense.

I'm so glad that clothing these days are so comfortable and easy to wear, at least what I wear.
