That’s right, mumblings. I had dental work today, so mumbling is about the best I can do. The work wasn’t bad, it was just in a “bad place”: the front teeth. On a tooth that had a crown put on it way back in 19(mumble mumble), too, no less. My dentist at the VA is great, though, and I gave him a huge round of applause for the way they are able to match my natural tooth color (my teeth have tetracycline stains on them, so they aren’t white). An hour before the procedure I had my nose tickled for a covid test. Needless to say, since I had the procedure, the test was negative. That’s one test I don’t mind failing every time I take it!!!! The other thing I did at the hospital was try to track down my medication. It’s been over a month since it was ordered (and the paperwork subsequently rejected by the pharmacy because an “I” wasn’t dotted or a “T” wasn’t crossed ), so I thought I’d better make like that line in James Taylor’s “Shower the People” referring to “the squeaky wheel always getting the grease.” It took a few walks between clinics, but I was able to find a triage nurse for the pulmonary department. She pulled the paperwork, saw why the pharmacy rejected it, and said she’d get it re-submitted in the afternoon. I’ll know in a few days if the medicine shows up in my mailbox. While I’m on the subject, let me introduce to you Robley Rex, the man for whom our veterans hospital is named. He was the next-to-last World War I veteran in America. He spent many years doing volunteer work at the hospital (it was nothing to see him in the hallways). When he passed away, four days shy of his 108th birthday, the VA honored his memory and volunteer services by naming the hospital for him. It’s my understanding the new hospital will retain his name. Good. That’s about it for today. I’m watching a gorgeous sunset in Destin, Florida via a live webcam. They’ve had a lot of rain due to a low pressure right off the coast (which may or may not develop into a tropical system), but as I type this the sun is shining on the water and it’s a splendid view. I love these live cams! Y’all have a great evening! Here’s “Shower the People” by James Taylor, since I mentioned it:

I hope you heal from your dental work without too much trouble. What a wonderful tribute to Robley Rex. I hope your medicine arrives safe and sound soon.

If it doesn’t show up….well, my name is Karen, and they might find out why that’s a “bad name.”

@Dena91 — why thanks! I’ll be here all week. Drive safely, tip your wait staff, and don’t forget we have three shows on Saturday with a pizza buffet at 5 PM.

Anyone who’s had a novocaine shot in “the right spot” knows exactly what you mean about not being able to talk! My “favorite” is trying to drink water after dental work. That can lead to excessive drooling, simply because of the way your mouth feels.

Bravo to Robley Rex, he was quite a volunteer and I'm glad that the hospital is named after him.

I think the newspaper said he worked six hours a day, five days a week at the hospital until he was 105.

108?? Wow, that is a long, long time to live. I bet you're glad the dental work is over. I go next Tuesday but only for a scale and clean.

My cleaning is in September. Don’t forget to take a couple of Tylenol an hour or so before the appointment so you won’t feel anything

@FourWalls I find cleaning and scaling more stressful than a filling. That's a good idea about the Tylenol. I might just do that.

I have been raising hell, just gently. If there was a specific person I could go unload on, I’d do it in a heartbeat; however, it’s “the system.” However, I am getting subtle revenge: I’m loading them down with travel reimbursement vouchers.

I never heard that one from James Taylor - Shower The People. I wonder how I missed it?

It came out after “Mockingbird” with Carly and before “How Sweet It Is,” so it may have been lost in the shuffle.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad your dentist appointment went well. I hope you get your meds. Rex was 107? God bless him. Have a great day.

Yeah, he was amazing. You couldn’t miss him when you were at the hospital in the 90s or 00s.
