My daughter Claudia called me. It was a 2 hour conversation or, better said, class. She bought some asparagus plants. 10, to be precise. And she wanted me to tell her that she didn´t have to wait until next year to eat her first asparagus. Everyone else had told her to wait. I am a mother. I know my children even if they are over 50 years old. I don´t think that the plants will "mind" if she cuts to eat one asparagus from each plant. One thing is to be a plant grower to sell and quite another is to but 10 plants to eat once So I said to go on and eat a bit. Anyway, one thing with the other, we talked and talked and talked. She will make me a ginger plant from a cutting. Vicente went for KFC food in part because CArolina arrives tomorrow and she thinks that people have to eat healthy. I agree with her not because KFC is unhealthy but because I don´t like it much. I´ll make an omelette. I´m fainting. But she offered me asparagus for next year.

I like that vegetable too but it is just not very common to really get it here. I just do not know if we can make that locally produced or is imported from abroad.

@marguicha I see I am pretty curios about how they are grown since I have not seen them planted. Most that I see are the ones that are sold already.

@CookieMonster46 When I was a child, I did not eat many either. We did eat tomatoes and lettuce and that was about it. And boiled veggies were Boiled until every bit of taste had been taken out of them. I learned to steam many veggies and serve the al dente when I was grown up.

Once asparagus is well established, it will come up faithfully every year. I planted some ginger this year, too. I hope it grows well.

I know about asparagus. This year is Claudia´s first year with them. Everyone told her not to eat any and let them grow but she called me to tell her otherwise So I told ther that she could eat ONE this year Claudia has ginger and she will bring me some to plant. I wonder if it can be planted in a container.

@marguicha I think so. I put mine in a shallow pot so I can bring it inside once the weather gets cool. It would die if I left it outside in wintertime. I've read that a the pot should be shallow because the roots grow horizontal.

I hope her asparagus does well. I haven't tried to grow that, but I do know that if you transplant rhubarb then the first year you should not use any of the stalks, and the second year only two or three. My partner didn't believe me and he totally killed off one of our plants! Luckily we had three more.

She sent a picture of the asparagus but I could not see much. I told her that and then told her that she could eat only one if she was so desperate She has 10 plants.

@marguicha Maybe she could take one shoot from each of five plants, and leave the others as 'insurance'!

Claudia is not much into it. But the children love it and she needed the time to turn Carolina´s ex bedroom to a bedroom again. She had turn it into a sort of barn lately
