Intermittent Fasting Update July 26th

For those who have not been following my journey: I began intermittent fasting at the beginning of April. There are different types of intermittent fasting. I originally chose the 8/16 method, which means 8 hour eating period, 16 hour fast period. (Others consist of 24 hour fasting a couple of times a week). It is suggested that you start gradually. I stop eating at 7pm. The first night I went 10 hours. The second night I went 12 hours. The third and fourth nights I went 14 hours. After that I hit the16 hour mark. Yes, I was starving when I went to bed at night, sometimes waking up and having to cheat by having a handful of Cheerios or something. The idea is to hold the fast. The tiniest bit of food blows the fast and resets your metabolism. You are allowed to drink water, clear tea or black coffee during your fasting period. I have actually found myself doing a 6/18 method. Stop eating at 7pm. By the time I get up and shower and get around to doing stuff and have found it's 1pm before I eat, thereby making it an 18 hour fast. There has been one or two occasions I have actually gone 19 hours. I may go to bed hungry but I DO NOT wake up hungry, which is why I have been able to stretch the 16 hours to 18 hours. So, the update? I have currently hit the 15 pounds lost mark!!! Ideally I would like to lose 10 more pounds but at my age I think 5-7 pounds is more realistic. However, this has been a lifestyle change for me. If I were to stop this program I would just gain the weight back on. There are times, social occasions, when stopping eating at 7pm is not possible. So being able to wait until 1pm means I am still probably fasting for 16 hours. Because I am only eating in an 8 or 6 hour period, there really is no snacking time, just three meals a day. My usual SMALL 3 meals a day. Cookies in the cupboard have gone virtually untouched. I have added exercise in the form of a twist board. I have a streak of almost a complete month of closing all my rings on my Apple Watch - 400 calories burned, 45 minutes of exercise, getting up (standing) 12 times during a day for at least a minute. Yes, pants are loser but I still don't like my big belly. Before I went to Cuba I went through all my dresses and got rid of all the ones that were too tight. Oops... I probably would fit in them now. I wore a dress recently that afterwards I concluded is just too big. I have an event to go to tonight. I hope I fit in one of the dresses in my closet.

That's great that the fasting diet is working so well for you. I don't deliberately stick to such a plan but I often go from 7pm at night to about 11am without eating. That's probably helping keep my weight down.

Unfortunately I had a cheat night tonight. There was a gala I went to and food was served sporadically or we had to line up for it. I stopped eating at about 10pm. But, it's just one night. I'll get back on track tomorrow.

@JudyEv It shouldn't. There were several different food stations and some being served to us. Those were very tiny portions. So I didn't overeat, not by a long shot. I'm more worried about COVID.

@patgalca Hopefully the very odd break-out won't hurt.

Is this program easier than eating less and exercising daily?

This program makes it almost impossible for there to be any snacking time. There are so few hours for eating that I fit my 3 small meals into them. I do exercise, but only on a twist board. I have closed all 3 rings on my Apple watch for almost a month straight. I lost that streak tonight because I was out and not moving around a lot.

@RubyHawk I am doing well. Night time snacking was my downfall. Removing it has made me healthier.

Good going, keep it up. I follow the rule of never going to bed with a full stomach, so my last meal for the day is always between 5 and 5.30pm - and it is very light. I usually rise at 6 a.m and have breakfast at 7 a.m - that is my heaviest meal for the day. Lunch and dinner are very light.

I usually wake up around 10 or 11am so if I scroll on my phone, then get in the shower and clean up the kitchen, etc It is 1pm before I eat.

I’m glad it’s working for ya. I have been doing the 14-10 for two years due to some health issues I had back then and it has changed my life. My energy is on point and my skin is amazing. Keep at it!

I am finding that I don't wake up with stomach issues as much as I did before.
