An Amherst police officer named Bailey on Monday morning showed his heart of compassion of a raccoon that was trapped inside of a trash receptable after the raccoon decided to get some food from inside the trash since he was likely hungry.
What made this action wonderful was that Officer Bailey went the extra mile by getting into the trash receptable to rescue the raccoon since the pallet that the police officer placed inside was not able to get the raccoon out from his trap.
Officer Bailey was able to get the raccoon out of the dumpster and let the raccoon leave the neighborhood to seek food in the woods.
My belief is that the raccoon's home in the woods ran out of food to eat which caused the raccoon to search for food inside of a trash receptable.
Most likely what happened was that a concerned citizen must have seen a loose raccoon in his or her neighborhood and he or she decided to contact the police to see if they could remove the animal from their neighborhood.

I was thinking the same thing that the police officer was wearing gloves as well when he picked up the raccoon with his hands. Thanks for pointing out the raccoon did cover his eyes since I did not see it myself.

I guess some people will call a police officer a hero for rescuing a cat from a tree as well. I know that rescuing a raccoon is a small act of goodness.

Raccoons will always go where there is easy food. I'm glad he was rescued from the dumpster.

I figured that racoons will go after any food source that they see even if they get in trouble.

That was so sweet, it would take a lot for me to ever climb in one of those things.

I know how you feel since the officer admitted that he was trained to execute those kinds of rescues.

I am sure that animal control had its hands full at that time.
