Andrew Yang has created yet another "third party"

The 2 main political parties in the US these days are the Democrats and the Republicans. It is interesting how their positions on issues has evolved over time but that is a discussion for another day. Both parties seem to have shifted to the extreme ends of the political spectrum and many Americans feel like they don't fit into either party. There are other so-called third parties out there--the Green party, the Libertarian party, etc. Now we have another one: the Forward party. The Forward party was announced by former Democrat presidential and NYC mayor candidate Andrew Yang. This new party is a combination of a few PACs (political action committees) including the Serve America Movement and the Renew American Movement. Members of these PACs include George Conway, Christie Todd Whitman, Miles Taylor, and Anthony Scaramucci. Yang claims that money will not be an issue for the Forward party and they hope to be on ballots in at least 15 states by the end of this year and in all 50 by 2024. The group has not officially presented a policy platform but describes itself on its web site as: "steering away from far fringes of the Left and Right to find the common ground. That approach can solve almost every problem. Really. Anyone who is willing to work together to solve problems fits in the Forward Party.” While it is clear that America needs to find its way back to the middle on hot-button issues, I don't know that the formation of yet another alternative party is the solution. All they seem to do is siphon votes away from both the Democrats and Republicans which weakens GOP and D candidates in general elections.

Both parties do switch-a-roos on issues, and ideology is the last thing they talk about. A majority of both parties wants a 3rd party. They aren't very different except for lip service. I also don't believe there's a left-wing in the US, not since the 1940s. I did love Ralph Nader, who is the only honorable man we have. Even Perot was doing better than both candidates until 92, when he dropped out because of his daughter's wedding (receiving threats?) and coming back a bit too late. But Yang has no spine, but I think the more the merrier. You might have coalitions in the future, but the government gets nothing done.... except giving themselves raises. Or supporting lobby groups, regardless of human rights abuses, apartheid, AIPAC, etc etc.. The country is finished. But, there's a lot of people who want to exploit that and make even more money - since it never seems to be enough. This country needs soul nutrition. And a social critic would be nice. Someone who won't kiss The Establishment the minute they start making money.

I disagree that "a majority of both parties wants a 3rd party".

@NJChicaa Gallup. On December 17, 2020, Gallup polling found that 41% as Independent, 31% of Americans identified as Democrats, 25% identified as Republican. A majority of both parties (61-64%) want a third party, and they also don't want Biden/Trump.

Thanks for letting us know about this new party. You're right about it taking away votes from the Democrats and Republicans.
