I was told I could never make it as a writer?

Since grade school, I have this fervent wish to become a novelist, a journalist, or simply - a writer.
I've succeeded in certain ways. I won a short story writing contest when I was in high school. and when I was in college some of my stories were accepted for publication in local mags.
Now, I'm trying to write a novel.- my ultimate dream. Many have discouraged me with the first chapters of my novel, telling me I was not cut-out for it. I tried and tried again, but my work came back, with the same discouraging words. "You could never make it as a novelist."
If you were in my place what would you do? Would you go on or would you finally accept reality and be resigned to the truth of your fate?
Please give me some answers. Thank you.

Never let them block your dream. Me myself they said the same to me. Now, I have some 9 books published on Amazon excluding some books published here in the Philippines.

@cacay1 I'm not a member of any book writing club. You can check my name at Amazon.

The best suggestion I can give you based on persons who have succeeded in the writing profession is to learn that art of writing novels, be persistent and trust your feelings on how to write a novel based on what you know about the characters and the direction of your story. People who say "You can't do it" should inspire you to prove them wrong.

You know what? Discouraging words will only go as far as the sender's mindset. Just keep improving. Everybody is always good at something. Keep on writing to your heart's content and look for other good qualities in you. I'm sure you do have a talent like your writing in your perspective. Diversify, the world is your oyster.

It sounds to me that you have passion for it so there is no harm trying. J.K Rowling was rejected so many times before a publisher took her in. As long as it doesnt get in the way of your main tasks I say go for it, I feel you have the imagination.

If it really is your dream, don't give up. There maybe a thousand who will discourage you but out of those thousands, they're might just be one who will finally publish your work.

Just simply ignore them, it's us who make our dreams come true not people who are full of negativity. A lot of successful inventions, businesses etc etc.. came into being simply because those who created and set them up believed in what they were doing against all odds.

I would continue. Someone very well could like what you are writing and want to publish it. As the old saying goes, when at first you don't succeed try and try again.

I really enjoy writing about all kinds of things online and creating poetry but I know I could never write a book because it just takes too much for the research and making sure all the things I write about a believable and so on, But that is me, If you feel you have the talent don't give up, Do some online searches abut how to write novels and what you need to know and then make it work for you, I wish you the very best of luck,

I think you should keep working at your dream. Every famous inventor or writer or artists had so many people tell them that they would never make it and they kept going until they did.
