Thrift Store Deals on My Birthday

United States

For those of you who remember my post about what I did on my birthday, I wanted to share the deals I got. I had $80 to spend at the 3 thrift stores I was going to on my birthday. The money I had to spend was from my eBay account Here is what I got at each: Goodwill: Nothing! (There just wasn't anything worth buying) The No Longer Bound Thrift Store (non-profit to benefit a drug rehab program): 1 Men's Orvis Shirt 1 pair of women's Overalls (new, tag on it said MSP was $88 at Belk) 1 Men's LL Bean Shirt 1 necklace for me 1 pair of workout pants for me 1 Pendleton Men's cabled wool sweater Park Avenue Thrft Store 1 Orvis denim shirt for me My total for all 3 stores ended up being: $22.14 Not bad, eh? And I still have some money left over for my next thrift store trip...although I did go to Michael's and treated myself to a few craft things there. I love shopping at thrift stores for clothing and shoes because I get such nice things for myself and to sell on eBay. Plus I save money. My daughter has inherited this habit from me. Do you ever shop at thrift stores?

Sounds like you really got some good deals, I used to love browsing through thrift stores and often found many good bargains,

@Kouponkaren now I have no way of getting anywhere, and I do not know where there are any thrift stores where I live, I get my groceries once a month delivered, and anything else I also order online, However, since you got me curious, I also discovered now there are online thrift stores that I will remember that in the future when I need something

@RasmaSandra Does that mean you don't go to thrift stores anymore?

I do much love shopping at thrift stores instead in a high branded stores. Some might say that it's not safe to shop at thrift stores due some COVID restrictions but you can but it watch before you use it. Make sense?

@luisga814 Yes, and even before Covid I washed everything from thrift stores before I wore them anyway. The clothing always seems to have that"thrift store scent" to it. Yuck. They need a good washing in hot hot water before I would wear them, for sure.

@Kouponkaren Yes. There's no difference with thrift stores and branded stores because you need to both wash them before wearing.

@jstory07 That's always so much fun to find. I sell most of my "new with tags" items during the Sept. - December" Christmas season on eBay.

@jstory07 What type of items do you sell on eBay? Items you get at thrift stores?

@Kouponkaren Goodwill gives a 10 percent everyday so I get that at least

@wolfgirl569 I am fortunate because there are lots of thrift stores near me and many with better prices than at Goodwill. Plus since I am over 55, I get a 25% discount on Tuesdays...every little bit helps!

I love thrift stores but I don't often get much chance to visit them lately.

@Kouponkaren That sounds quite similar really. It doesn't always make a lot of sense comparing prices across countries as everything is so different - wages, rent, etc, etc but those prices do sound similar.

@JudyEv What are the prices like there? Here, we pay about $4.00 to $5.00 for a pre-owned shirt, $$3.00 - $7.00 for a pair of pants, $5.99 for shoes, although there are a few that are much less expensive but don't have the same variety as the stores with these prices.

I do pop into thrift stores, but they seldom have anything I want. Still, you never know, so worth a look in

@Ronrybs Half the fun is in searching for treasures at great prices. Even if I don't find much, it's the thrill of the hunt that keeps me going back.

@kouponkaren I hate shops of any sort, but my wife gets everybody kitted out at such places.

@sFiacre Wow, "kitted out" is a new phrase to me. I like it! I would love to shop at thrift stores in Ireland. Ireland is my very favorite country, except for the US. I have been a few times and love it there. I have never been able to go to a thrift store there though. Tried to once when I was visiting Cobh on a cruise but they said they were closed at 5 and it was about 2 minutes before 5 pm when I arrived. If I ever go back there I am definitely heading there first thing.

@Kandae11 Oh gosh, I would be very depressed if I lived in a place with no thrift stores. I would probably try to open one of my own! LOL!

@misunderstood Thanks. I do too. My mom raised me that way so it's kind of in my blood I guess!
