Well, I sort of warned you this one was coming. And now it’s here. All revved up and raring to go, for your dancing pleasure here’s today’s song that has a brand name product in the title.
#6: Little Red Corvette - Prince
I said that Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac” had a little sexual innuendo in it. Not this song. It’s so blatant a three-year-old knows what it’s about.
You all know the song, so let me brag on the Corvette. While the Caddy might be the “status symbol of the rich” of years gone by, in reality the Corvette was far more expensive. When I bought my last Chevrolet product back in 1988 they had a ‘Vette sitting on the lot. It was about $37,000. To give you an indication, the next year I bought the house I live in now. The asking price for the house was $36,950. Wow, I bought a house and I could have had a V-8!
If you didn’t know, there is only one GM plant in the world that makes Corvettes. It’s in Bowling Green, Kentucky. That probably explains why they run on moonshine as well as premium.
One of Prince’s most enduring songs, having nothing to do with a car while mentioning the premiere car made in Kentucky!

Nope... but I've heard "Purple Rain" a lot. My friends wouldn't stop playing it.

And you’re wondering after about the 800th play, if you should get new friends.

Don’t try to teach the kids “Darling Nikki” after “The Rodeo Song,” though.

He was certainly the gifted songwriter, musician, and entertainer. I couldn’t even begin to imagine dancing like that…but in HEELS too?

It was overplayed, but not as much as “1999,” which we had to listen to nonstop until the year 2000.

I’m sure GM appreciated the publicity the song’s popularity gave the Corvette, too.

Understandable. I think he was quite an entertainer, but it got on my nerves how he found a way to make “good morning” into something sexually explicit. He quit that when he got religion.
