Normally this weekend I’d be coming to you tired and direct from my hotel in Columbus, Indiana. Unfortunately, I hyperextended my knee the other night while changing bedsheets. I don’t think there’s anything too seriously wrong (it’s more of a “Hmm, that didn’t feel right” thing than a “holy cow, call EMS, I can’t walk!!” thing.) I have an appointment Monday afternoon to see if I’m correct that it isn’t anything too seriously wrong. Anyway, this is the first time in 22 years I haven’t been at the Legends tournament. February and August are dermatology months for me. I made a huge mistake and took his very first appointment in the morning (7:45 AM), because if you’re not the first appointment you’re going to be running late. I’m not complaining: I think it’s outstanding that he spends time with his patients. I want him to answer my questions, and I should therefore not expect him to ignore everyone else’s questions while he’s in the examination room with them. Anyway, he lobbed off three moles, and the biopsy said they were fine. Good to go for six months, unless it’s snowing in February. Then he’ll have to do a hotel room house call on me in Florida. The bad thing about that appointment — first thing Monday morning — is that I’ve been a day behind all week. I will say this: I know EXACTLY why so many people in this world are pissed off. Being up at that stupid hour of the day AND expected to function will do it! Like the comic strip Dibert said, “Who arbitrarily decided that 8 AM was a good starting time?” The photo of the sign was taken at the dermatologist’s office. Isn’t it the truth! I’m hoping to get a week or so of traveling snuck in before Labor Day. Where? Heck if I know! Last year I drove to St. Louis just to get out of town and ended up in Montana! Two years before that, I did the same thing and ended up in Maine. I’m thinking about Vermont, western New York, or the like. But I’m like that line in the song “Everybody’s Talkin’,” I’m “going where the weather suits my clothes.” Apparently new webcams get added daily in Florida, which makes the evening sunset viewing so much sweeter. Yesterday, since the weather was so incredible here, I was outside watching our sunset (and it was beautiful). In the past few years we’ve had this “sneak peak” in the middle of August, then it’ll get back to blast-furnace hot by the time the State Fair rolls around. I’m skipping that this year. The State Fair is too much of the same old same old to justify going over there. Also, given the unseasonably hot political weather, I would rather not be around those booths where the right-to-lifers get into arguments with the pro-choice coalitions. No kidding, they’ve actually been across the aisle from each other. At least the people doing the booth assignments have the common sense to put the Democrat and Republican booths far apart. Y’all have a slap-hap-happy Saturday evening!!! Here’s Harry Nilsson doing “Everybody’s Talkin’,” given that I mentioned it:

How are you feeling now? I'm so glad that the biopsy results were fine. My first time to see the original performer/singer of the very popular and well-known, Everybody's Talkin. He's unique in style. Cool. I hope you feel better filled with strength.

I’m feeling okay. It’s still nudging me, but as I told the therapist today, it’s never been one of those “this is something terrible” feelings, more like a “you’re old and here’s another pain to prove it” feeling. Harry Nilsson wasn’t the original performer for “Everybody’s Talkin’,” but I’m so used to his version I can’t listen to the Fred Neil original.

@FourWalls It's good to know you are okay-- healthwise. I didn't know that. I'm surprised. I'll check out Fred Neil original version.

Sorry you missed the tournament. I hope your knee isn't something serious. Let me know when you get down to the Keys. I want to travel with you vicariously! I miss going to the fair. I like to have a corn dog, Swiss cheese on a stick and pat a pig.

@FourWalls Thanks. I have Mallory Square up right now. Another cruise ship came in; but we missed it as it docked. Maybe we will see it leave.

Sorry you didnt get to go. Very happy about the moles being nothing. I agree about mornings. I seldom roll out of bed until after 8 in the morning. Love that sign. But for this week here its not true.

The midwestern state fairs are great. A friend and I went to the Tennessee State Fair one year and we were in and out in under an hour. It was terrible. Thanks for concern about the knee. It doesn’t feel too bad, so I’m hoping everything will heal itself in a few days.

I enjoy them for so many things: people watching (lots of fun at the Southernmost Point buoy), sunsets, and storms. I was watching a thunderstorm over Galveston Bay last week. Absolutely amazing to watch that lightning “hit the water” (and you wonder if it electrocutes the fish ).

@FourWalls You have helped me lately watching the cams. It is really a nice calm way to pass the time.

I hope your knee gets better and nothing serious. You quite the busy traveler and its hot and I told my sister earlier, time to go outside and melt. I cannot imagine being in Florida right now, any kind of swing state. At least Indiana is more right wing so people just except it, no point in arguing kind of like California. More of a left leaning state and sure the right wingers try to stir stuff up but people just ignore them and they shut up You need to put up a disclaimer song on deck turn it on and you can listen to it while reading. I should do that too haha. I actually write comments so long I heard the whole thing anyway so not sure why I am saying that other than the best time to turn a song on is while you are reading. I always say it but never do it. read whole thing and then turn song on. so inefficient.

Columbus, Indiana is, as the sign says at the city limits, Mike Pence’s birthplace. He’s okay. That guy he was VP to, though….

I go to bed at 2AM so I would not want to go to an appointment that early in the morning.
