What a Disappointment

If Trump did this, people would be shaking their head and waving their fingers shouting in outrage over being "disingenuine and lying directly to the American people." I am talking about the Inflation Reduction Act signed into law today, which does...wait for it... Absolutely NOTHING to curb inflation. It's basically a scaled down version of the Build Back Better bill Biden could not get passed earlier. The new name is simply a rouse to make some Americans believe that the president is hard at work at fixing this runaway inflation plaguing us all. It does none of that. There is simply not one single thing in the entire bill that gets to anything that is at the root of why inflation is at decades high levels right now. In fact, one could argue that the bill will actually contribute to more inflation as it has climate in there as a part of the bill—part of the rising inflation is BECAUSE of green energy initiatives folks. So, nothing there to curb your cost at the pump, which is a large part of the higher cost of everything these days. It also calls for a minimum 15% tax for all corporations with earnings over $1 billion a year. Who will pay those taxes? The same people who pay all taxes. You and I. Time and time I have said it and it bears repeating... Businesses do not PAY taxes. They collect them from you and I when we buy their stuff. The tax is a cost of doing business and the business passes the cost fo the tax onto you and I. Forever and always. Anyway, it's just more smoke and mirrors and dead promises and frankly, an outright farce to call this bill an inflation reduction anything. Are there some good things in it? Sure. But that this bill is focused on things that aren't even the biggest problems right now while leaving America behind is ludicrous and irresponsible in my opinion. Now would be a time to bring together a bold plan to curb inflation. Not just pass a bill that acts like it does something. Despite how the media will portray it, this is no victory for anyone.

Nothing that happens under his watch has been a good thing. Not to be trusted for a minute.

All this bill does is support the agenda the dems have had all along. To destroy America and put their (the democrat's) interests first, the rest of the country be damned. Unfortunately this all affects the poor more than anyone. The people they SAY they have the backs of. But the truth is that the rich aren't hurting from these policies. The poor are. It's shameful and dishonest.

@porwest All bills they pass are the same in my opinion. The fine print wold blow you away if you read some of these bills.

@CarolDM The fine print is always the key. It's the part no one in the media reports. As for this bill, it still amazes me no one in the media has pointed out... It has nothing whatsoever to do with inflation reduction. It astonishes me.

You know the dems always like to think they are in the right. In reality, they are elderly men with the mindset of children. I feel an actual child would do better to run our country.

You said it all right here. I have said a similar thing in the past. It wasn't always this way, but it sure is now. But they have never had the best interests of their constituents in mind, that has always been true.

Suddenly I am thinking of Trump as a bump that unfortunately we all wound up tripping over

@everwonderwhy A lot of hope was lost in 2020 honestly. Hope in the American people and faith in our elections. It was a sad day. Not because my guy lost. But because I think he may not have.

@porwest Your unlikeable president Biden is disgusting. But the 34% Americans are still head-over-heels over your fumbling president Fool.

@everwonderwhy It seems he is strongly suggesting that he will. But he has not officially announced and likely will wait until after the midterms to do so. I'd actually like to see him run as well, although I am still leaning a bit toward DeSantis with a Trump backing—I think that may be a better option. Even if I have no ill-will nor feelings against Trump whatsoever.

Biden's approval ratings across all questions is abysmally low, maybe even historically low. I am still convinced he will not be an automatic in 2024, so this could get rather interesting if we have both democrat and republican contenders on the stage.

Business establishment by practice never pay taxes. It's the end user or the consumers who actually paying the taxes. Sad to note, they never remit the actual taxes to the government coffer. What they actually pay is their business permit to operate.

You are right about the first part but a little off on the 2nd part. Some corporations DO pay less taxes than many would like them to. But the kick in the butt is???? They are also following the very tax laws that the government established. So, whose fault is it if the company does not pay what the government thinks it should? It is the fault of the tax COLLECTOR and the people who make the laws, not the business. Who should I be mad at? The business for paying too little in taxes, or the government for making laws that allow them to do it? The politicians like to stand before the people and scold the companies. People forget that the ones who are doing the scolding are directly responsible for the problem. And only THEY can fix it. The companies aren't going to simply write a check just because. That's up to the legislators to write laws that force a bigger check to be written if that's what they want.

@Nakitakona Politicians often like to talk a big game but ultimately only want power, a fancy title and an easy paycheck.

@porwest You said it right. It's the politicians who are pointing fingers but they're the source of the problem

I am always interested in the opinions of others around the world about what happens here in our politics. In a way, what the rest of the world thinks does matter in one way or another.
