Radioactive beads

I've been letting mom go to her own appointments for awhile now. In some cases there is a no guests policy anyway so I figure she;s got it handled. Well one day I answer a phone call from her Dr. figuring it's important and I should. Imagine my surprise after being told that her appointments have been just fine, that she had Dr;s appointments set up because they found spots on her liver that will need treating with radioactive beads. I took another call from the Hope Lodge (the place we stay when she needs out of town appointments) to ask me questions about our upcoming stay that I knew nothing about. If you are hiding things from family, be sure to not put family down as your "caregiver". So I confronted her. Asked her if there was anything she'd like to mention about her health ... no, nope, nu uh.... and then I told her about those calls. She said she was trying to protect me from worry. :/ Well, maybe, but I wish she would have let me be an asset. True, I worry, but I will also think of things from all of the angles and will ask questions and strive to come up with the best possible outcomes. Some people would consider this an asset. Well that was about a month ago. So far she has had the needed 2 out of 3 procedures ... I hope they are working well, she will have images soon . I am happy that they were able to place the radiation right where needed and it spares healthy tissue and that she was maybe a bit tired, maybe a bit tummy upset for a couple of days but otherwise not bad, right back to normal. I just feel a huge array of emotions. Sad she has to go through this. Million questions about what this means moving forward. Could we be so lucky that it's just the matter of having these procedures done and then she's healthy and move on with life. I hope so. That is what I pray. Photo: Pixabay

I’m glad that you discovered what your mom was “protecting” you from. You’ve always been there for her. Thank goodness she is doing well now. I pray her good health continues.

That's all you can do. Is take it one day at a time, and have open conversations about health and the like.

@FayeHazel No. It's natural to worry of course, but it doesn't solve anything.

Thank you, our dear Vicki club Vicki , and I will share that with her. I know one of her favorite Bible verses is Proverbs 17:22 "A Merry Heart Doeth Good Like a Medicine..."

I can understand your mum doing this and trying to shield you but really, it's never a good idea. It always comes out in the end if you try to go behind someone's back.

I agree with you. Always better to try to tell someone right away, that way you can control how they get told and they hear it right from the person in question.

Wow, I never knew radioactive beads were used to treat diseased liver areas. I understand how your Mom doesn't want to worry you. But it is good you know what is going on.

Fascinating , isn't it? I'm so happy there is such a treatment available. I think they use similar to treat several types of diseases and areas. I read somewhere that the little beads are 1/3 the size around of a human hair, you likely couldn't see them with the bare eye. Ah I suppose I didn't need to worry this way, but..... still......
