I Had Forgotten Why I Quit Watching Him

I used to watch Richard Simmons on television and enjoyed his high energy - to a point. He was big energy and animated. "Sweatin' With the Oldies" Remember him? I did enjoy his high-energy workouts and inspiring stories but, I quit watching his shows because he was just too much.
He has been in the news recently for having fallen off the radar. Fans are worried about him since he closed down his exercise place in 2014 and hasn't been seen. He did phone into an early morning talk show to dispel rumors that he was transitioning into a woman. There have been a lot of rumors in the media about what may have happened to him including his housekeeper holding him hostage,
His fans have been worried about him since he closed down his exercise facility in February of 2014 with no announcement as to why or for how long.
After reading through several articles about him recently it seems that he had knee surgery several years ago and needed to have the other knee operated on as well. But, the pain had been so extreme that he didn't want to get it done.
He has fallen into a deep depression. He wants to be remembered as a witty and entertaining fitness and health guru and not the cane-using older man that he has become.
There is a documentary scheduled to drop onto Tubi on August 30th which I will be watching. See if I learn anything new.

I was wondering what happened to Richard Simmons after he was the top exercise name on television many years ago.

@celticeagle I know that a lot of exercise personas do retire from their work or get into show business making movies like Kiana Tom.

@celticeagle I don’t remember If I still exercised with him when he left.I think I did. It could have been his old shows. He got me hooked on exercise and I’ve never stopped.

Richard Simmons was very inspirational and he helped many people overcome being overweight. I love him, no I wasn't overweight, but we both suffered from depression. I hope he's all right!

That's a shame that he can't handle getting old. It happens to all of us. I wish him well.

I remember Richard Simmons when he was an aerobic instructor on "General Hospital" many years ago. I also remember "Sweatin' to the Oldies" along with him! A lot of people found him really helpful in their weight-loss journeys, and he was such a beloved character for such a long time! There is at least one documentary that I hope to watch about what became of him. I just hope he's okay!
