I Finally Watched It

I posted a week or so again about Richard Simmons. I had read online that he had disappeared. Since 2014 no one had seen him. I did see where Tubi was going to have a documentary drop on August 30th. Tonight I watched it. TMZ Investigates "What Really Happened to Richard Simmons?" had some really cute photos of Richard when he was a youngster. Many of them when he was at his peak both professionally and physically. I thought that was worth watching it in itself. The documentary is the first place I have seen where it tells about his birth defect. He was born without all of the bones in one of his feet. Later on in his life, he had gotten surgery on one of his knees but, the pain was so great he wouldn't get the needed surgery on the other knee. His reason for leaving Slimmons(his gym) and his public life behind was that he didn't want to be seen as an old man with a cane. He wanted the public to remember him as the health guru with an extreme personality that helped millions to lose weight and become healthy. This was a passionate, emotional, sensitive, and caring human being. He did good work and he has many fans.

He was very emotional in a lot of the interviews. He seems to be very sensitive and takes a lot of the emotional impact of the different people's situations. That would be very hard to take on the pain of others several times a day, every day.

I wasn't that much either. But I respected what he was trying to do.

I think people would accept him as an old man with a cane anyway and he could talk about his memories, I hope he is alright,

I think his pride won't let him do that.. It sounds as if he is alright.

We are all getting old right along with him. It's a shame he dropped out of the public eye.

I can understand him wanting to leave people remembering him a certain way though.

I wasn't a fan of his workouts, but I was a fan of his as a person. He did wonderful work with a LOT of people and still has a lot of fans. He shouldn't be worried about people's memories of him as a health guru but as a courageous man who isn't afraid to let people know it's alright to be older and even have to walk with a cane...it's going to help a lot of people who remember him!!!

I was too. I can understand how his pride won't let him present the real man at his age. He wants his fans to remember him a certain way. I think it is all ego.
