“An American Dream” is a song written by Rodney Crowell and recorded under the title “Voila.” The song was later recorded by American country-rock music group The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band or in short, The Dirt Band. It was released in 1979 as a single from their album by the same name, The song made it on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks and the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The version by The Dirt Band features a backing vocal by Linda Ronstadt.
