I Am So Sad

We have five cats now. Our oldest is Silver. He's about 8-10 and is a grey long hair. He is a lover, not a fighter. Then we have Mittens who is like Goofey of the cat world. He is the cuddle monkey for my daughter and grandson. Then there is Whisker. Black and white petite, she's the momma cat. Then we have the two newest additions--Colby(Main Coon markings), who's a whiner and meows all of the time, and Finn(all black) more of an intuitive type, very low-key, a real sweetheart of a cat. Well, Silver is being traumatized by the other animals (except Finn. I have never seen him attack Silver) He won't defend himself against them. He is protected in my room. I won't let the other cats come in here and he has this room as his safe place. This morning poor Silver couldn't even make it downstairs to use the litter box or eat. They caught him in the hallway. He shot back in here and pooped and peed over in the corner. Poor cat. A cat's got to go when a cat has to go. I just can't have this happening every day and I just don't know what to do. How do you teach an old cat to defend himself? Too many cats. Tell my daughter and grandson that. My grandson and I discussed it yesterday. He thought maybe a box in one corner with food in it would help the situation. They could still get at him and just eat the food. Another litter box upstairs? I couldn't handle that. So, I don't know. Have to put with the stress I guess. And be on the watch. Makes me so sad.

He needs his own area with box, food and water. Things will not change any with his age.

No, it's very sad. He stays outside a lot now.

Sad about getting old. The strong can be mean.

You'd better resolve yourself to having a second litter box for Silver, or he'll continue to just do it wherever. Can you deal with that?

Anyone would tell you, to have a second box, food and water. Create a safe place for him. If he won't defend himself now, he never will.

I think he needs his own litter box and food and water.
