My homemade butter from fresh preserved cream.

My milkman close to my house sells me pure milk. I separate the thick cream everyday and preserve it with a little amount of curd. I churn it every 7 or 10 days in my blender with chilled water and get fresh butter. I don't take this salt free butter with anything but I prepare clarified butter from it which I used both for seasoning and garnishing my dishes. Today I sprinkled some clarified butter in my potato casserole. I get my butter from the market and use them for sandwiches and sometimes cooking and baking.

My grandmother always made her own butter. Brings back good memories.

My grandmother, my mother made homemade butter and me too now. I am able to keep up the tradition. They used their hands and a pot and I the blender.

That's a good way of spending less on butter. Does it taste the same as the one from the market?

It's saltless. The one we get from the market here is salted. I do butter for my bread.

I use butter only in sandwiches that I get from the market. I make clarified butter(the Indian ghee)from my homemade butter which I use for garnishing and seasoning food.

Why you don't use homemade butter for cooking and baking?

I use homemade butter for baking sometimes but not for cooking. I like clarified butter made out of homemade butter as it has a sweet smell.

Adding curd is a good idea We do not get good milk - not much cream. We used to before and we made ghee.

I am lucky that we still get pure milk and I too make ghee from the cream.

Yes, it's healthier as there's no preservative in it.
