Guilty!

You know something is bad for you - especially when done in excess - but you do it anyway. you know something is good for you , but for whatever reason you tend to ignore it. Years ago l knew a Cardiologist who was addicted to smoking. He finally kicked the habit - then started eating too much , subsequently becoming overweight. l try to be very careful about what l eat, but l am guilty of adding a fair amount of salt to my food. I know it is not good for me. Drinking the right amount of water each day is necessary for good health - yet l barely manage 2 or 3 glasses per day. What do you do that you know is bad for you - but you do it anyway? What do you know is good for you , but you avoid it ? Pixabay image.

I have always tried to eat in moderation. Never smoke or drank.

I like eating sweet foods. Ice cream, cakes, chocolates. I'm trying to restrain myself.

That is a hard one to overcome - having a sweet tooth. I like sweet things too but l have succeeded in restraining myself. Like l have certain favorites once a month or thrice a year.

I do not drink all those glasses of water as many doctors (not all doctors) suggest. I have a small glass of whisky every evening. Those are my sins.

@Kandae11 It is really a small glass, half glass and an ice cube.

Ha, ha. That doesn't sound sinful , a small glass of whiskey. The key in most things is moderation , when we go overboard then problems arise.

For years I knew soda was bad for me, but I drank it away. Until recently I finally stopped and started drinking tea. I also used to eat alot of junk food. I still eat some, but not as much now. I know drinking plain water is good for me, but I rather drink flavored water.

I think my son loves sodas too much. He drinks a lot of it regardless of my warnings. The only comfort l have is that it could have been something worse.

I think you need to start doing the right thing and gradually you'll get used to it.

@Kandae11 That happens when someone gives up smoking they turn to something else and he turned to eating. I make the same mistakes over and over again and cannot stop myself I knew losing weight was good for me but I kept putting it off until I could no longer look at myself.

It is never too late , you can still do it but you have to convince yourself that you really want to lose it . The fact that a Cardiologist whose job is to diagnose and treat diseases of the heart couldn't stop smoking for a number of years shows how hard it is to do the right thing. He knows more than anyone else that smoking in excess can damage your heart. I think with strong conviction we can at least try .

@Kandae11 Maybe there is a reason why he smoked and now stopped and now overeats. People have reasons why they cannot do things or maybe they try and just at the time do not succeed. It took me many years to see that I needed to lose the weight and keep the weight off and that is not an easy task.

@Hannihar He was a heart specialist, he knew that smoking damages your arteries, and being a doctor he saw patients who had heart issues and he advised them not to smoke. Thankfully he was able eventually to give it up.

When you have GERD , you definitely should not consume beverages which are highly acidic - like coffee. How do you feel after you drink a cup or two? I know it would be hard to give up. There is a coffee , TYLER's which claims to be 100% acid free you can probably try that one. And there are a few others with low acidic content.

I'm also one who uses too much salt and doesn't drink enough water. It's really hard to drink when you're not thirsty. I'm thankful I never started smoking...I see what a terrible addiction it can be. I do believe that most (not all!) things in moderation are okay and very few good things in excess are okay.

@Kandae11 The only way I can drink water is to get it really cold in ice.

Yes it is hard to drink water when you're not thirsty - so I'll have to think of it as medicine which must be taken.

Honestly I don’t know. I follow my diet and I walk every day but I have slacked going as often to the gym I did that because my bones started popping and I thought I might be overdoing the weight lifting

Even if you don't eat much, it all depends on the amount of calories that are in what you do eat. Sugar, fats and oils cause weight gain- especially as we get older.

Those are two good questions. I think what I do that's bad for me is that I stay up too late on my computer. And what is good for me but I avoid it? Probably exercise. I do try to exercise every day, but sometimes I just squeeze in 15 or 20 minutes when I know I should do at least 30 minutes of exercise a day.

We should all try to do better. Remember our brain is 73% water , what will happen if we deprive it of water?

I really like sugary drinks like boba tea, chocolate drinks, etc I know it's not good. I'm trying to reduce it

You can limit it by reducing it a little at a time. Like if you usually have three cups a day of the chocolate drink, start by having two a day, then 1 a day. You can also reduce the amount of sugar in your tea bit by bit. Too much sugar causes many health problems including eye damage.

I tell myself that l do not eat salted nuts, chips and other high salted stuff like processed meats. However l know that l should still add less to my food when cooking.
