When did people decide that everything needed a warning label?

Don't get me wrong, there are things that need warning labels. But as a generalization, the fact that people think everything in the world needs warning labels annoys me. I don't know if it is because of how people are being raised now, where they are given participation awards, money for sitting on their butts, or they are just coddled. But everything doesn't need a dam warning label. I know this is going to shock and mystify you guys, but I don't give a rat's patootie if what I say goes against what they think or believe. There is freedom of speech, and while you might think the statement I just said is rude. I have every right to say what I want to say. I try my hardest not to offend people or be downright rude. But that is just common courtesy. I don't feel like I need to put a warning on my posts when I speak my mind. I am not going to write a trigger warning when I talk about the abuse I endured from an ex. That just adds to the stigma that we shouldn't talk about it. I am very open about anything that has happened to me. It's my story and if you want to read it, read it. If you don't, don't. I just cannot wrap my mind around the general populace deciding that everything that could possibly bring up bad memories for someone or might remind someone of what they have been through. They don't have warnings when we watch the news, and if you have watched the news recently there is plenty of horrible stuff being aired. So why? Why did people decide that everything was going to offend everyone and to protect the bubble-wrapped egos that they needed to preface everything with a warning? Anybody care to weigh in?

That’s what’s so great about America, freedom to speak your mind!

I think the point is being lost on all of you. That is not the point that I was making. I was making the point that I think it is rediculous that people feel the need to put warnings on stuff. And other people expect it.

Sometimes they put those warnings and labels for attention April but the post itself is not about the actual title. I have seen a few such as that.

I read what I want and skip what I want. I originally thought your post was going to be about the warning labels that say things like "remove shirt before washing" or " this high chair is not to be used upside down", the reason those labels are there is because someone did whatever it is and then were either shocked at the results or decided to sue someone. As far as warnings about discussions, I will try to let people know if it contains too much medical information, but then I post it, because said information is informative. Just as stories about surviving abuse can be informative.

I agree with you mostly. But people should be using discretion by the title to know if they are going to want to read it or not. And that's not just here that applies to any article anywhere.

You should be free to talk about anything that you want to talk about.

Thats what I think too. I ws just adding that I don't think i should have to make any warnings to readers about what they are about to read.

Anyone anywhere should be able to say what they want and if the other person has a problem with that so be it

It's because we are a sue-happy culture here in America. "Well, nobody told me it was not okay to eat Tide pods. So I ate one. Now I'm going to sue you." The other part of it is, if you see a warning label on something, it means that some idiot somewhere in the world actually did what they are warning us not to do. And believe it or not, I'm starting to see media news stories that have viewer discretion warnings appear before the news story is viewed.
