Today's trip to the little Tesco.

I've just been to the little Tesco again. It was a bit dull so I put my mac on just in case although I didn't really think it would rain. (It didn't.) As I was walking up our road, a lady was doing some gardening just by where I cross the road. She said Good Morning and I said Hello. When I got in the Tesco I got 2 TV magazines as usual, I got some kitkats and some ginger nut biscuits for me. Then I was looking for a bounty bar for my step-dad, but I couldn't find the usual one. Instead there was a fruit and nut bounty bar that I have never seen before, so because it was the only one I could find, I got that.. Next I got some strawberries and 2 boxes of sugar free Alpen, one for me and one for my Mum. Then I got 2 bottles of milk. Mum wanted me to get some baking paper. She said, don't get it if it just says greaseproof paper, only get it if it says baking paper. So when I found it it said non-stick greaseproof and baking paper! So I thought, well it doesn't JUST say greaseproof paper, and it DOES say baking paper, so I'll get it. So I got it. On the way home I picked up a couple of feathers. I'm collecting them! When I was going back down my street the same lady who'd said Good Morning said That was a quick trip, and I said, yeah! When I got in I took my coat and shoes off, and then I went to the toilet. After that I took my Mum her change and her receipt, and gave her her cards and shopping list back. Then she said that when I'd just gone out the door, she went to look at the baking paper and she saw that it said, non-stick greaseproof and baking paper! She said she thought about catching up with me and explaining but in the end she didn't! Anyway, I got the right baking paper! Then I explained to her about the different kind of bounty bar as I was putting away the groceries. When my step-dad came down later to get him and my Mum a coffee, he looked at the bounty bar and said, It's shrunk! Then Mum explained that it was a fruit and nut bounty bar rather than a regular one!! How is your day going so far?

I enjoy reading about your trip to the grocer or is it a convenience store? We don't have Tesco here. At my age, there is some nostalgia for the time we purchase our needs at the corner store, unlike today where one shops at those megamalls and supermalls.

It's a bit of both I guess - grocers and convenience store. I'm glad you like reading about my trip to the little Tesco. I know what you mean. There are a few corner shops that I remember from near me that have now been converted to residential which is a shame, and the big malls are putting some little businesses out of business which is also a shame.

@sharonelton The price of progress. But bigger does not necessarily mean better. Gone is the familiarity and replaced by the impersonal, indifference, and at times rudeness.

@josie_ Yes, that is so true. I miss the intimacy of the corner shop.

@sharonelton I went to big Tesco at around 7.30 this morning. I didn’t use the toilet there because I went before I left the house. No-one said hello to me, but as I arrived in our road my wife was driving out of it to go somewhere and she waved at me.

@sharonelton The usual - Emmental cheese, garlic, diced shoulder of lamb for tonight’s stew, milk and a cottage pie. I love shopping early in the morning when no-one wants to become my new best friend.

I went to the little Sainsbury's and bought a loaf of bread. And for once I didn't buy anything else! Then I used the real life checkout person because those automatic things really spoil my day.

Very detailed set of activities. I am glad you got the right baking paper so you would have to make a third trip..

Maybe because the Bounty Bar had fruit and nuts in it, they've made it smaller.

That was definitely a quick trip but you did all the shopping that you had to. It is so nice that you shopped for everyone and took care of their likes and specifications.

Never come across the fruit and nut Bounty before, I wonder what it's like. Did your step-dad like it? I've made a mistake with greaseproof vs. baking parchment before, it didn't work out well

@sharonelton The paper got stuck firmly to the cake and would not come off! Had to cut the edges away.

It did say it was new, so that's maybe why you haven't encountered it before. I don't know wether my step-dad liked it. He didn't say. Oh, dear! I'm sorry to hear that!

You had a lot of shoppinh done. It is difficult to shop for others especially when they do not specify clearly what they wanted or give other options
