What a day!

What a day we've had today! Mum was supposed to go to the hairdressers today for a wash, a blow dry and a trim. She was supposed to go at 10:30am but when she tried to get up off the sofa, she couldn't do it. She tried and she tried but she just couldn't do it. So she didn't end up going to the hairdressers. She was also supposed to go to the Luncheon club at 12:00 midday. She decided she wanted to go to the toilet at about 11:25am but she still couldn't get up off the sofa. She was still there trying to get up at midday when she was supposed to be going to the luncheon club. While I got my lunch, my step-dad tried to phone my Mum's friend Frances but he couldn't get her. Her son answered the phone and my step-dad gave him a message and he said he'd pass it on. A little while later we had a phone call. My step-dad was hoping it was Frances but it was Maria from Church wanting to know why they hadn't turned up at the luncheon club. My step-dad told her about my Mum not being able to get up off the sofa and Maria said she was on her way round. A few minutes later Maria turned up and I opened the door to her. She asked my Mum what was up and why she couldn't get out of the chair. She tried to help her up but couldn't so she phoned my brother David because she thought if there was two of them they might be able to get her up. She couldn't get him at first so she left a message saying that she was with his Mum and Dad and could he phone back when he got this message. A few minutes later he phoned back and Maria told him what was going on. So he said he'd be round as soon as he could. Dave lives in Barton-under-Needwood and it takes about half an hour to get here from there. When Dave arrived him and Maria managed to get my Mum up and sitting on the seat on her walker. She was out of breath and they noted how swollen and red her left leg was. Dave phoned the Doctor's number and explained everything. They didn't have anyone who could come out to see my Mum. So, after a while, my brother decided to phone for an ambulance. He explained everything again and they said they'd send an ambulance but that we'd probably have a bit of a wait because there wasn't one available at the moment! While we were waiting for the ambulance I cleaned the draining board and did the washing up. They phoned for an ambulance at about 1:30pm and the ambulance arrived at about 3:30pm! The ambulance men were very nice. Too youngish chaps. They looked at my Mum's leg and said that doesn't look very good does it? They asked all the usual questions, do you have any pain anywhere? What medications do you take? etc. They took her blood pressure and gave her an injection or something. Then they put her on a drip. Mum didn't want to go to hospital but I said you're going to have to! She said I should get the usual when I go shopping tomorrow and that she'd leave me some money out. I started my dinner at 4:00pm and the ambulance men took Mum to the hospital at around half past. My dinner was finished and I ate it at around 4:45pm. My step-dad went off to the hospital about 5:00pm. After I'd finished my dinner I put back all the things that had been moved so people could get round. Then I realised my Mum had taken her handbag with her money in and hadn't left me any. But I knew she kept some in a draw in the dining room so I got some from in there ready for tomorrow. At about 5:40pm there was a phone call on our new phone so I raced to answer it. It was my Mum's friend Frances. She asked me what was going on and I said my Mum's been taken to hospital. Her legs flared up again and it made it so she couldn't get out of her seat. I said my step-dad had tried to phone her but someone else had answered and he said he'd pass the message on. That's when Frances told me it was her son and he'd left her a note. I told Frances about what the ambulance men did, and the drip and everything. Frances said they would be draining the fluid off or something. Frances said, what shall we do with her? We're always telling her to get that leg sorted but will she listen? At first Frances said she'd probably leave it til tomorrow to go and visit my Mum but then I told her my step-dad had gone up to the hospital to see her already and Frances said I bet he doesn't like driving in the dark these days does he? I said, no I don't think he does. So Frances decided she'd go to the hospital right away because one of the lanes on the A38 was closed so when he was on his way back he might not know the roads closed and he might not know which way to go. So she rang off. A little while later the phone rang again. It was Frances again. She was at the hospital but she couldn't remember our surname to ask for who she wanted to see. So I said Elton. So she said to go back and watch whatever I was watching on TV. Then again about 15 minutes later the phone rang again. This time Frances said she was in an ambulance with my Mum and they were in a queue. She said they could be in the queue for 4 hours! I said I'm not standing here for 4 hours! She said, my phone hasn't got much juice left anyway! I think she had it on speaker phone because I could hear my Mum laughing! Then Frances said my step-dad was on his way back, and that they must have passed like ships in the night! But she said a Doctor had told him about the closed lane so he did know. I told my Mum she hadn't left me any money, so I'd nicked some out of her drawer! She said, cheeky! I said I'd leave the change on the table. Mum said she'd told my step-dad to get some fish & chips on the way home. After I'd got off the phone to my Mum and Frances I washed up and saw a beautiful moon out of the window. I tried to take some photos of it but it doesn't translate very good in photography. When my step-dad got back, he hadn't got any fish and chips. I don't know what he eventually did have but I think it involved cheese. Now I'm just letting you know about my day while watching Vera on ITV3. Picture: my effort to photograph the moon outside my window.

I saw the lovely moon too! What a day you've had. I hope your Mum gets some attention and the problem can be relieved. Do you know what the problem is - is it arthritis?
