The joys of being a home owner.

My husband and I bought our first house almost six years ago. We've had our ups, downs, and challenges to be sure. However, just a few minutes ago I found myself calling the city water department because there is apparently some kind of problem with our meter. Well, I looked up the number and my husband called, but still. Not what I planned on doing first in the morning before eating. Oh well.

Owning a house is a big achievement and especially the first one. But then it comes with its own set of responsibilities and work that might not be fun. Our renovation work has just got over. The maintenance is a big responsibility.

I know. Since I paid my house off I’ve spent about $15,000 more in replacements/maintenance than the original asking price of the house. . But the rent is free!

We've paid our house off, too. I am so thankful for that.

The city came out to fix it. Turned out we needed a new meter. So, we got that replaced and we'll be compinsated for the water.

So it would seem. If it's not one thing it's another.

@kaylachan I used to own several properties. Beyond just owning them, being a landlord presented many more issues and problems. Tenants were HORRIBLE. lol

Always something to take care of when you own a house.

Yeah, this is true. But our problems have been minor so far. Not bad for nearly six years.

these days owning a house is much better than owning an apartment since rents are ridicously high, but it seems there is always something to cost you money with home ownership.

It's cheeper to buy often times it is to rent. But, each situation has a trade off.

You save up to buy a house and think that once you have done that you can sit back and enjoy it, but oh no!

We paid our house off 2 years ago, I am glad we did that as nowadays the mortgage interests are huge.

We do have our own home but we don't own the lot which our house is built. Before we rented it but the owner no longer collect the rental pay.
