Good day to you all. Despite doing some lovely things, I have found it difficult to keep up the positivy at times just lately. There are various reasons for that, which I won't go into. I'm just going to keep focusing on the positives (which I must remember to also write in my 'good things diary'.
I can't remember where I left off last time. should have looked at my previous posts before I started this one! Anyway, I believe it was when my eldest son had just graduated or maybe my trip to Worcester with the youngest. Well, eldest is back at university now. He's studying for a Master's in Adolescent Mental Health, and he's also looking for a job.
My youngest son is in his second year at college. He got a certificate for the first year of his Performing Arts BTec, he'll get another at the end if this year then he's hoping to go to university. He wants to look at a few in London but we've not been able to visit those. We've looked at one closer to home, though, and will be looking at another one soon. Considering nobody in our immediate family had been to university previously, I'm quite proud that all of my small household will have done should the youngest continue on that path.
That's the boys. Now, about me! It was recently my birthday and wedding anniversary (married 3 years now). My dad asked my what I wanted for my birthday. There was really nothing so I said I'd like a day out. Dad and I went to Stafford (it's about an hour on the train from me). I'm not sure exactly why I chose Stafford, I'd just been thinking about it. Perhaps inspired by memories from my first ever Facebook photo album, which happened to be a trip to Stafford with my dad!
I'd taken a couple of days off work so we went on a Tuesday. We got the train and went into Victoria Park, which is directly across the road from the station. It was a beautiful day so that was a bonus. The river Sow runs through the park, there is a small aviary and a glasshouse so we had a look at those. We then had a drink at the cafe in the park.
As we came out of the park, we came across a shop. My dad described it as a witchy shop as it sold various crystals, incense, scrying mirrors, etc. We popped in and had a lovely chat with the gentleman in there - he goes by the name of Finch. My dad bought me a book, which Finch signed as he was also the author. He then recommended another crystal shop (where Dad bought himself a necklace and chatted with the lady in there) and a place for lunch.
We had a wander around the town, popped into the Ancient High House (which is a museum with lots of history about the people who had been there, including royalty, and also houses the Staffordshire Yeomanry Museum).
We went to the recommended place for lunch (16th Century Soup Kitchen). It was a nice building with interesting decor. The food was OK but wasn't as good as it had been hyped up to be!
I think Dad had had enough after lunch so we took a leisurely walk back to the station and came home.
A couple of days before that, though, my husband and I went out for an anniversary date. I'd treated us to tickets to a Fleetwood Mac tribute band (Fleetingwood Mac). They were very good. They were playing at a relatively new venue in our local city. We weren't sure what to expect but it was a really good atmosphere and was like a bigger version of the place we first met. We also made friends with another couple, which was nice but strange because it's been a long time since I've made new friends!
We were out longer than expected but it was very enjoyable.
I have written everything in a somewhat muddled order, I think
I have another couple of days off coming up (tomorrow and Friday). As it is school holidays, I'm taking my youngest son, my little niece, and my little nephew bowling tomorrow. My dad is also coming with us to that. Friday, husband and I will be going out for drinks with his best friend and wife. I can't remember the last time we saw them!
Anyway, that's me for now. I'm sure I'll come back soon with other exciting things!
Hope you're all well, and I will have a look around your discussions after work today

Thank you. It's nice to be missed
I'm doing my very best to keep focusing on the good things, and I'm sure the less good things will settle. Hope you're having a good week, too.

I did have fun... I won bowling. I was particularly impressed as I'd not been for years while my niece and nephew had been recently!
My son beat me at pool. I don't think I'd ever played against him before but he enjoyed it.

@pumpkinjam I'm glad you had fun bowling and playing pool. It would take a miracle for me to beat anyone at either. My scores make people laugh, they're that bad.

Sounds like you have many good things to look forward to as well as the nice things you've been doing. Many happy returns of the birthday and the anniversary, and congrats to the boys on their successes!
I don't think I've ever been to Stafford, it sounds much more interesting than I would have expected, maybe we'll go there for a day out sometime!

It is lovely but there isn't a great deal in the centre apart from the places I mentioned. Saying that, the park is huge and you could easily spend a day walking along the river or having a picnic on one of the benches or green spaces.
I did find that some of the town is not particularly equipped for people with disabilities due the nature of such old buildings with steep stairs, narrow walkways, and no way of updating them.
