Hollow Happyween, or something like that. By the way, this time next week it won’t be this time next week. (Not applicable in Arizona or Hawaii, two states with the common sense to NOT observe daylight savings time.). As for the countdown, we sail into the top five with a terrific song! It just so happens that it has the same title as a song by the 80s hair band Poison.
#5: Stand - R.E.M.
Ah-ha! Now my motives become obvious!
No, not really, but I was happy to see a song called “Stand” on the Poison discography list. That means I can whip this out (back, Sheriff Bart!
) and let you enjoy it!
Remember, this isn’t about Poison, it was just inspired by a joke about them. So you get to hear an R.E.M. big hit classic! Speaking of jokes, that’s pretty much what this song is. Michael Stipe said they were discussing the 60s Saturday morning cartoon theme songs, and Stipe took it as a challenge to “out-bubblegum” them.
Peter Buck said it’s “the stupidest song we’ve ever written…that’s not necessarily a bad thing, though.” True.
And I always like how Michael Stipe gets a lot of mileage our of the D in the last word of the song.
Stand
Written by Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe
Recorded by R.E.M.
From Green, 1989

I plan on being grumpy when the clocks fall forward. I hate that it gets dark so early. Don't recognize the song.

We live right on the border of eastern and central time, so it gets dark comparatively late here. Our earliest sunset is about 5:20 or so, but in Nashville it’s dark at 4:30.

@FourWalls 4:30 sucks. Our earliest sundown I think is at 4:54 or something like that.

@LindaOHio — I watched the weather vlog from Birmingham this morning. Their sunset next week will be 4:50 (central time). Yuck.

Glad you remembered the song. Can’t wait to hit those half-off candy sales tomorrow!

@CarolDM — I know. I had to go get more Mucinex and they were already replacing the Halloween candy with the Christmas candy! Guess they send it back to Hershey and have the pumpkins remelted to form snowmen.

Yeah, you commie.

Millions of musicians out there, so someone will hate something that someone else loves.

See? You were worried that you wouldn’t know it. Now face west.
