HURRICANE NICOLE AND/OR HIGH TIDES?????

For the first time in the 23 years I have been living here at Gateway I have been unable to go food shopping! And for the first time in 43 years, since I moved back to Fort Lauderdale, I have been unable to get my lottery tickets for the week! (If my numbers come out tonight who can/do I sue?!?!?!??!?) I don't know how much is due to Hurricane Nicole or the high tides or the combination of both! We did have heavy rains (along with wind gusts) last night and a lot of the beach streets were flooded with water AND sand but we had our 'normal' flooding by the time I went to sleep and when I woke up this morning the sun was shining so I was surprised to see everything around the building flooded! Our driveway was deep in water and the entranceway was almost impossible to come in.  By the time Allen called to say he was on his way down to pick me up I told him to drive slowly and maybe it wouldn't be as bad by the time he got here---WRONG!!! He called me to say the police had all the blocks surrounding us blocked and looking around I knew there was no way I could get out to where he might be. We decided he will come back tomorrow and we will do our food shopping tomorrow!! (Hopefully, last night was the 'high' of the hide tides and the streets won't be blocked off tomorrow!!) I am going to have to have a talk with Mother Nature about this nonsense!! She is just lucky I have some carrot cake (I keep one for emergencies and this is definitely an emergency!!) to get me through the day and night! In the pictures the very last one on the right on the bottom (where the #3 is) is the entrance to Gateway which is completely blocked with water--cars can't get in or out! The #1s are my backyard along the canal and the #2s are the driveway.

I can't figure how Floridians get used to these storms. I would want to sue too. Haha. Stay safe.

@GreatMartin .........That's good to hear. Always scares me when I see on the news that a new one is forming down there. You and a few others are there.

We have been very lucky in Fort Lauderdale---the last 2 hurricanes Ian and Nicole just waved to us and left--the king Tides did more flooding and before that it was 10-11 years ago!

Let's hope that waters down by tomorrow. Good thing you decided to stay safe and have that carrot cake. Best to stay prepared. Now I'm going to go get my carrot cake for emergencies too. Keep us updated.

I hope you can get out tomorrow. Was there any damage to your building?

I am so sorry your area is flooded. I know what you mean about the lottery tickets. I've been playing the same numbers since 1989. Stay safe; and I hope you will be able to get out soon. We are currently getting some rain from Nicole up here in Ohio. Supposed to get 1-2".

I love carrot cake , that would be some consolation. Hopefully the water stays at that level before receding.

I just took a picture of the birds getting 'nourished' on the grass as the water is gone!

Nicole had a lot of help from Ian. It did so much damage that we haven't been able to bounce back. Here on beachside, twenty-two structures were deemed unsafe and unsound. Most if not all of them homes or condo units. Six of them are now swimming in the Atlantic ocean, with more expected to join in the coming days.

Let's hope all the storms are gone now. Lost power and the groceries I ordered last Wednesday came on Friday. All is alright now but did not get cat food so will have to order some.

This one was a 'late' storm--that should be it but one never knows with Mother Nature!
