Gaming especially playing on laptops and mobiles. Gambling - online or offline. Both of the above have their importance. However of late I am seeing a surfeit of Online Advertisements advertising all sorts of Gaming or the Gambling sites or Apps. The problem with the above two is that both can be very addictive. Unless one is very disciplined, one can spend hours and hours on these Habits. Gambling sites can also lead to monetary loss. Such addiction can be bad for both kids and the grown ups, but more for the kids. I wonder aren't the advertisers worried about this? Or is making the public habitual to their Apos/Sites and make more money their sole purpose? A serious question to ponder over!

I stay away from both. Have never got attracted to them. My elder daughter is into gaming and she wants to be a game designer and developer. She started playing from Grade 9 but she never crossed the time limit and could keep her academics and other obligations in balance. She played for few hours every week

@arunima25 These sites as well as Social Media are the big sources of addiction these days. I visualize De-Addiction centres as a big business in the coming days.

@arunima25 So that means the society as a whole need to think of these problems, as they look quite alarming now. Controlling Net time as well as limiting time for Social Media is the best solution.

This is a hot topic in Australia at the moment and the government is trying to take steps to stop some of the practices that make it so easy for people to gamble.

@JudyEv Government has to step in when such things become too critical or starts impacting many.

@JudyEv Cultural orientations too are changing, pushing young and old alike to become more self-centred, arrogant and often too money minded. In a way, it's a sort of cultural crisis!

I think they're concerned more about their pocketbook than people's addictions. I don't gamble and only play a couple of harmless computer games.

@just4him Yes I also concur with you. As grown ups and as wise grown ups(excluding the mad people into gaming or gambling), we can limit ourselves and self check. However, Kids and teenagers are often prone to more addiction. My guess is that this problem is probably not limited to one or two nations, but it is beyond the borders and affecting many across the world.

One has to be a certain age to gamble at an establishment, but l doubt there are any restrictions on line.

@Kandae11 Things are much more open online so it seems that even 12 to 14 years old folks might be playing Games and Gambling online.
