Continuing from my previous post : The Day One was on a Saturday. I wanted to had a good sleep the night before. However, it was perhaps a mix of excitement and worry to catch the train in time. Or the effect of Coffee. So I hardly slept 4 hours or so. I woke up around 3:45 AM in the morning. I went to the washroom and had Tea and some cookies. Then at around 5:30 I had the cab to the Railway Station. I reached the station well in time. I was surprised to see the roads around the Railway station - NDLS or the New Delhi Railway Station bustling with a lot of traffic. And at early Winter morning, so many cabs and cars and people for Traveling here and there. It was nevertheless an exciting experience, as I was going to travel by train after 7.5 years ! I also got a newspaper and waited for the Train for around 30-40 minutes. Within the train, the interiors were neat and the overall Train services are more professional and the journey started nicely. I am sharing some pictures here. Pictures from left : 1: Crowd at around 7 AM at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) , New Delhi, India. 2: The Morning Newspaper : Times of India 3: Taken when the train was about to start. ..... Will continue ..... I will be back ........ Images: Taken by myself
As told in my previous post : https://www.mylot.com/post/3532337/short-travel-trip-tales-a-precursor I had booked my Train and Hotel tickets well in...

@FayeHazel India has a very big Rail Network, mainly owing to the legacy British Raj. Millions of people travel crisscrossing India every day. Now Trains' quality as well as the services within the Trains are improving.

@FayeHazel I have a feeling (although not something that I have verified !) that US traditionally invested Billions of Dollars on Mighty and big highways and Airports, but Railways were kind of neglected. India inherited a big system from British Imperial rule, but things were not kept up to the mark till a few years back. However, now I am seeing a conscious and faster action towards improvements. The results are showing albeit at a not so fast pace.

I recently travelled in train after almost 8 years or more..zi travelled by Shatabadi express and the experience was wonderful. It was beyond what I expected. And I was really happy to see that the railway stations are so neat and clean..and even with more facilities..There is definitely a good development there in recent times.

@arunima25 And we would see further improvements in the stations. Plans for a neater redesign of the New Delhi Railway Station are already there.

@arunima25 I think while the cleanliness in the trains have improved, stations still lag behind. Yet commuters too need to take care to avoid litter. One frustrating point at another station was empty liquid handwash bottle. This might sound snobbish to some in India but I always hate public utilities toilets lacking liquid handwash or it not getting refilled on time.

@arunima25 The way people still litter and many public washrooms are still not properly maintained means that we still need to get people motivated to do better at these things.

I'm glad it went well. Maybe you slept on the train since you didn't get much the night before.

@just4him I tried but couldn't sleep on the train. I just closed and opened my eyes in between and tried to relax a bit.

I always enjoy travelling by train although I liked the old steam engines best.

@JudyEv So have you done active traveling through Steam Engine trains? Yet they used to be quite polluting.

@JudyEv Yet the Steam Engines have their own charm! There are one or two heritage trains in India as well.
