Olivia Julianna is a 20 year old youth activist who has been very busy raising awareness about causes and getting out the vote this year. She came onto my radar several months ago via Twitter. She was tweeting about women's rights and bodily autonomy and caught Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz's attention. He retweeted something she posted and body shamed her basically saying she didn't have to worry about getting pregnant. His tweet was: "Why is it that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions? Nobody wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb." She wasn't having it and she responded with the following: "It's come to my attention that Matt Gaetz — alleged pedophile — has said that it's always the 'odious 5'2 350 pound' women that 'nobody wants to impregnate' who rally for abortion. I'm actually 5'11. 6'4 in heels. I wear them so the small men like you are reminded of your place." She then started fundraising for women's access to abortion using his name and his tweet. She ultimately wound up raising over $2 million from Gaetz's attempt to body shame her. Last night she tweeted that today is her 20th birthday and she was asking folks to chip in $2, $20, or $200 for Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock's runoff election next month. She stated that her goal was $20,000. Just an hour ago she tweeted that they had raised $50,000 for Warnock. I see big things in Olivia's future!
Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz told a crowd in Tampa that "nobody wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb," launching him into an online battle with a teenage activist.

While I don’t necessarily agree with her political leanings and causes she champions for, I do applaud her activism. It’s nice to see people from younger generations getting involved in our nation’s democracy.
