Mishearing words

I was thinking about misheard words yesterday when I visited a public building where the radio was playing Macy Gray’s song ‘I try’. Even though I now know the real words to this song, some of which are: “Though I try to hide it, it's clear My world crumbles when you are not near” every time I hear it I can’t help hearing the words “Though I try to hide it, it's clear I wear goggles when you are not here” I know I’m not the only person who hears this, several friends have debated the exact wording, and Google reveals that there are plenty of examples on the web of people who have misheard this song (I just Googled ‘I wear goggles when you are not here’ and it came up straight away!). The other day when we had gone for a family outing, we were looking for a parking space and there appeared to be one, but closer inspection revealed it to be for disabled drivers. My partner explained ‘That’s no good, it’s for disabled badge holders’ but Little One misheard this as ‘disabled badger holders’ and thought it was a specific parking space for anyone carrying a wounded badger, although she was rather confused as to why there should be such a space, especially since we were not near to a vet or anywhere where a badger might get help. Now every time we see the blue badge sign we call it a ‘disabled badger space’ . Macy Gray song is here – have a listen and see what you hear!
