I have to give credit where credit is due to the bravery of Oregon State Trooper Vaughn and a Wheeler County Department deputy whose name was not mentioned in the story. A bull elk had the bad luck of having his legs and antlers trapped on barb wire near Mitchell Oregon on Tuesday afternoon that required help to be rescued from the trap he was in. When Officer Vaughn contacted the Oregon Department Of Fish and Wildlife to see if the officer could use a tranquilizer to kayo the elk but when the wildlife officer gave the trooper and the deputy the bad news that their request to use a tranquilizer was denied, both law enforcement officers had to use bolt cutters to cut the barbed wire around the legs, neck and antlers.so that the elk could run free. In the case of "You cannot win them all." One part of the barbed wire is stuck on the antler of the elk. At least the elk did not suffer any injuries in the accident.

Barbed wire and an elk getting stuck in one must have painful for the elk to deal with.

I'm thankful the elk was eventually set free:) My grandpa had this happen to a cow. He ended up with severe cuts on his arm, trying to free it from barbed wire fencing.

I admire someone who is willing to save any animal which is stuck on barbed wire since the risk of injury is great.

@Deepizzaguy Back in those days, the only help grandpa had was his wife. Together they freed the cow, even though she refused to stand still. Cattle get so frightened, when they are in a dangerous situation. They actually panic, I believe.

@kobesbuddy I understand why a cow would be scared if anyone wanted to free her from being stuck in barbed wire.

Barbed wire and animals, especially wild ones, is a very bad mix. I'm glad they were able to free the elk.

@Deepizzaguy On our farm, we mostly had rabbit netting fences with two rows of barbed wire along the top.

@JudyEv Thanks for sharing the information since i have never seen rabbit netting fences before. Just pieces of glass on top of cement walls in homes in the interior of Panama.

I remember seeing lots of barbed wire in the farms in the countryside of Panama where my late aunts and uncles used to live. I did not even want to touch a barbed wire.

I am in agreement with you since the police officer and the state trooper had to use Plan B to free the elk from being in the trap since no law enforcement officer wants to see an animal suffer.
