I got a pamphlet in the mail the other day for a dancing group that is coming to town. They have been here before and I remembered how beautiful and graceful they were. Now, after reading their pamphlet I get the full info on their history.
A traditional dance that had gone on in the Chinese dynasties for ages until 1949 when the CCP or, Chinese Communist Party, took over. The CCP saw all the spiritual and heritage of the country as a threat and did all it could to eradicate it.
The 5,000-year-old culture was sabotaged by the CCP even after it came to America. Since 2006 it has had its ticketing systems attacked and even had its sponsors harassed along with misinformation spread about the revival of the Chinese culture over the internet.
But, they have been strong and continued through it all. Their dancing as well as their costumes are beautiful. I would love to experience it but their tickets start at $80. A little steeper than I am able to afford. That would be $240 for the three of us to go. That's nearly half of our subsidized rent.
The picture is borrowed from The Advocate.

Wow! $80 a ticket is sure steep! Too bad you won't be able to see them.

Shen Yun is quite well known. A friend of mine saw the performance. He said it was amazing.
