Christmas without the tree

I wonder how Christmas would look like if the tree was not thought of to symbolize Christmas. Do you think Christmas would look incomplete if there was not a tree? Personally, Christmas is more of the closeness of family members, with or without the tree where presents can be found around it. My older sister and I have always wanted Christmas to be every day because we noticed that people are more generous with their smiles during this time, and when Christmas is over, that's it, back to a sort of cold world. So, what about you? What do you think if there was no tree to be decorated during Christmas?

Christmas in my view is to celebrate family unity.

NO, when I was a kid many families only set up the Nativity Scene, the tree was considered a pagan symbol.

I heard about that too, Anna, that the tree associated with Christmas was a pagan practice. Do you have an idea how it came about? I would love to know and hopefully, for those who responded to this discussion of mine.

@baguiojade Christmas trees began as a pagan tradition the fourth century of the current era. European pagans dressing their homes with the branches of evergreen fir trees in order to bring color and light during the long dark winter. Romans also used the branches for decoration during the festival of Saturnalia, which took place from December 17 to December 23 in honor of the God Saturn.

@LadyDuck Whoa! Interesting! Thank you, Anna for sharing this. Wow, really, interesting! As for me and my family, it was a simple one. We had a small store before, and I was excited when Christmas was nearing because I assigned myself to decorate the display windows with greetings and some decorative Christmas balls that had strings which I pinned on the ceiling. No Christmas tree too. We gave out packed candies to customers, which I assigned myself to pack with Christmas wrappers. Mom, older sister and I went to church. Yes, I do miss those days, especially mom & dad have been long gone, my older sister is half a world away from me and my daughter.

We don't have tree up this year. The cats mess with it too much and we are trying save money on the energy bill.

I was thinking, seeing cats climb up the Christmas tree... I guess, just because it looks like the tree outside where they climb up, they think that a Christmas tree is a tree! Does that make sense? Yes, saving on the energy bill is one thing too.
