Issue with cable service

My mom and her friend wanted to watch cable tv yesterday and when they turned on the cable box there was a message “to restore or activate services call...” number to call provided. I found it odd and told her friend to reboot the box. Same message appeared again so I called Spectrum to find out what’s going on.
I had recently (November I believe) called Spectrum (as account on my name) to get rid of cable and just keep Internet as my mom’s bill was close to $230 a month. The lady on the line told me there’s a promo and I can get all three Spectrum services (TV, Internet, Phone) for about $10 more than it would cost just to keep Internet I have. My total would be $89.99. Not sure if that included tax or not. Mom agreed so we got that promo and now our services would be Spectrum instead of Time Warner.
Speaking to a guy yesterday, it turned out the reason the cable box doesn’t work is because the promo I got was for IP streaming (watching cable via Spectrum app) not for cable box. I was not told this when I called in November and agreed to the promo deal. I probably wouldn’t have agreed to this had I known there will no longer be a cable box and we’d have to stream. Nor was I told to return the cable box I have, not even when I went to return the old modem.
The guy was going to see if he can switch me to the cable box but before doing that he put me on hold to ask someone else if that would affect the promo rate. When he came back he said if he does that it gets rid of the promo as that was for IP streaming only and I’d be paying pretty much the same high price as before for my services. No way!
I asked him about IP streaming (as I’m not familiar with it) and he said if I have Roku I can download the Spectrum app and watch cable this way, still through my TV. My mom has Roku so she will try that out. I hope my mom will be fine with that. Otherwise we will have to cancel the service.
Oh and get this, even after I activated the new modem, that apparently didn’t work and the latest bill was for old rate. I had to call Spectrum weeks ago to find out why. The rep had to activate modem again as it didn’t show it was activated, hence why I was billed old rate, and readjust the amount due with new rate. I thought they’d generate a new bill with updated rate but they can’t do that. I have to wait for next bill to see breakdown of my new services and rate.

I hate all cable and satellite companies. They are making money hand over fist; and they never give us a break. We are paying $226.59. I think it's highway robbery. Have a good weekend.

Better than 256 we pay but still too much. We could pay a bit less if we downgrade our tv from gold to silver. But there are some channels we watch that are only part of gold.

@LindaOHio It was interesting when I called about getting rid of cable service and just leave Internet in my mom's house the lady was quick to search for a deal for me... instead of just proceeding with cancelling cable.

@lovebuglena Exactly. I got on the phone with them and got a little bit of a discount. I have to do that every year; and it's so annoying.

IP streaming is great for those who want to cut the clutter, but still have the perks of cable t.v. I felt with crash issues and other issues with the spectrum app when I had it, but it was new then. I wish you luck with it.

I hope there will not be any issues using the Spectrum app if my mom tries to use it.

I tell you these cable places are so high priced and sneaky.
I have quite a good deal but still more than I want to pay.
I only have internet mostly wireless and mobile phones through them.
No cable tv.

The promo we got is for a year I believe. Not sure what happens after that. But the non-promo rates are ridiculously high. My mom used to pay for TV, Internet, and phone bundle close to $225 every month. For our account where we only have Internet and phone hubby is paying much more than that now that our promo is over. This is just crazy.
