I have a memory which I wish to share. We were on a package holiday in the US and our tour conductors always chose Indian restaurants and most of the time the starters were onion rings.
In the US the size of onions is almost 5" or more in diameter something that was totally new to us The moment the waiter placed that bowl of onion rings they were grabbed and I was one of them. 
In our cuisine onions play a big role - in the masala, in salads, in vegetable dishes, to temper dishes, onion pakoroas.... the works.
Do you eat raw onions?

I remember as kids we would throw them in the fire and then eat them.

No, I don't eat raw onions. My onions must be well cooked. I like scrambled eggs with onions, and pork chops with onions.

There must be more dishes than just scrambled eggs and pork chops where you use onions?

Much bigger than what we get here. In fact I brought one home just to show it around (Iol)
