Football (soccer) has lost yesterday its King. Edson Arantes do Nascimento lost his last match against cancer. He was with no doubt O Rei. Many times he has been compared to other incredible football players. But now that videos have been shown, all of the unique moves of other wonderful players have been made before by him. Brasil will mourn him officially for 7 days. We will all remember him.

Never much into sports but with soccer being popular in Latvia I knew all about him and saw him on TV there, What is interesting about his name is that Pele is an actual word in Latvia and translates to mouse, I guess in that case we could say he was the mouse that roared,

Even people that know nothing about sports, the name Pele mwans something. I only was a box fan when Ali boxed but the name, too, will be forever in the History of boxing. Those people are larger than life.

@marguicha Football is one of the most popular sports in my country. Unforunately our football team is terrible. Many Chinese know Pele and we wish we could have such a wonderful football star one day.

He was the first “name” in soccer that Americans recognized. Before him we basically knew nothing about the sport. That’s how significant his impact on the world has been.

Pele made a comeback in Cosmos, in New York because he was bankrupt and they offered him lots of money. and in his terms although other big teams had offered him a lot of money too. But he liked the idea of teaching America to like soccer. And he did.

He was different, he was a king and he was never arrogant as many of the modern footfall players are. He was and will always be "O Rei".

I have seen videos of him that I had never seen before and he really knew how to kick and carry the ball in the field. I read that he scored at least one goal in every football match. More than any other football player. I´m going to be knowing more about him now that he has passed away, RIP.
