My Total eBay Sales for 2022

United States
December 31, 2022 10:34pm CST
Every year I set goals for myself, which include personal and financial goals. My goal this year was to hit $4,000 gross sales on eBay. I put 25 of my 150 items on auction this past week to just get rid of some items that were hanging around too long. I had 3 sales from that auction, so that brought my total gross eBay sales to $4,655.78. I did it! I reached my goal and feel pretty happy with myself. But that total is before I take out selling costs which include gas, the cost of goods that I buy at thrift stores and estate sales, and my small storage unit. Yikes. Not a lot of profit. But I love doing it Hunting for treasures is so much fun for me. So next year my goal for eBay is $6,000 gross sales. That's only $500 in sales per month. I think if I try hard, I can do that. Do you have financial goals that you set each year?

I kid you not. Every time I have set any, there has been a catastrophe that made it impossible, so I stopped a couple of decades ago and let myself live and let live.

@youless Thanks. I hope so too. At first, my new goal of $6,000 sounded easy but that means selling $500 a month and there are some months that it is very hard to sell that much. For me anyway, because I just sell on eBay part-time.

Good luck with that. I have sold a few things on eBay. I don't find that site very user friendly though honestly. I like selling on FB selling groups much better.

@snowy22315 I don't like to sell on facebook groups because I don't like the idea of having to meet up with people in person. It's easier for me to just shop things at my convenience.

@RebeccasFarm Hm maybe I could write a post about selling on eBay. I am not an expert by any means and I only sell part-time but I will try to come up with some tips. I sell mostly men's and women's clothing and shoes, and collectibles (Barbie dolls, vintage home items, etc.) And anything else I think I can make at least $10 on.

Well done! So you pick things out here and there to sell? Do you think eBay has changed recently? When I tried selling a few odds and ends this year I found that they didn't seem to get as much interest as before, some items only got one or two views. I can understand some things might not sell unless the right buyer comes along, but if they don't even get seen at all... I wondered if some algorithm has changed somehow, or is it just a ploy to try to get sellers to choose their more expensive option?

@Kouponkaren That's a good idea, I'll look out for that. I have sold quite a few bits and pieces in the past but even for really obscure items that didn't get bids or only got one or two, they always got plenty of views and now that seems to have ended which is weird!

@Fleura It may be different selling in the US rather than the UK. I have a few tips that really seem to work well. I think I will write a post about them. @RebeccasFarm said she could use some tips about selling on eBay so I think I will probably try to put something together for that. I go to thrift stores and estate sales and buy things if they are inexpensive enough. But I always look up comps on eBay first to see if I can get any real money for something before I purchase it.
