Many people dont feel comfortable with life jackets.

In the Paradise beach in Pondicherry there are boat rides from the water bodies to the Bay of Bengal. Travellers who know swimming they are also asked to wear the life jackets then only they are allowed to board the speed boats. I found some travellers saying that they know swimming so there is no point wearing them as they make the body very heavy. Yet for safety reasons the boatmen insist as it is a policy of safety.

When we travelled to Thailand, we were also asked to wear the life jackets. I think this is a good rule. Knowing how to swim can't make sure you will be fine in the ocean. Having the life jackets can be a good guarantee.

It is better to follow the instructions and wear Life Jackets. What if the current is fast? I hope that the Boat rides are conducted when the weather is fair and not when there are chances of storms.

It would be very foolish indeed to go without life-jackets if that is what is recommended.

I must have worn similar life jacket before when using ferries, and they were not heavy if my memory serves me right. (I can't really remember, it was too long ago, my last trip.)

I think it is a good policy requesting people riding on speed boats to wear life jackets.
