Forgetfulness is worse in wet weather!

Our driveway ends at the garage, which is on the other side of the garden from the house. Of course, like many people, we don’t actually keep the car in the garage but instead use it as a ‘home gym’ and space for a table tennis table as well as a useful store for tools, spare bits of wood, animal supplies, spare boxes and the like that might come in handy. The snag to this parking arrangement is that carrying the shopping from the car to the house generally requires either three trips or a wheelbarrow. And I did this a few days ago so the wheelbarrow was by the house instead of in its usual ‘parking place’ behind the garage. We’re currently having a lot of wet weather here. Earlier I cleaned our little hamster’s cage; I had brought the wood shavings and bedding from the garage the night before. So I needed to put away the big sack of wood shavings. And I needed some small boxes to package items to post. And I wanted to put the wheelbarrow away so it would be handy for the next shopping trip. So what I should have done was to put the sack of shavings in the barrow, take it to the garage and come back with a couple of boxes – simple! What actually happened – I took the sack of shavings to the garage and ran back to the house in the pouring rain. Then I put the keys away. Then I remembered I should have taken the wheelbarrow back, and I needed some boxes. So I pushed the barrow over to the garage, but then of course I realised I didn’t have the keys in my pocket any more! So I ran back to the house in the pouring rain again, fetched the keys, ran back to the garage and came back with a couple of boxes. What a faff! The snag of being forgetful/ easily distracted. At least I got a little bit of extra exercise I suppose! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2023.

Reading discussions like this makes me feel just a little bit better about my own behaviour. I remember my Mum saying 'never make two trips when one will do'. However, that doesn't always work.

Yes, sometimes I do miss the convenience of being able to park right outside the door.

Thunderstorms here today. Thankfully our garage has a door from the inside. Works out great. And the car stay in the garage.
